Candice Bergen at Guest Star on “Retaining” opposite Michael J. Fox

Add Candice Bergen to the list of icons appearing on Apple TV +”Shrinking”, the co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed on Saturday evening during a panel at the Austin Festival atx TV Festival. During the event “Bill Lawrence and Friends” at Paramount Theater, Lawrence let slip that the star of “Murphy Brown” would appear in the series, which is now running its season 3, the opposite series Harrison Ford and previously announced the guest star Michael J. Fox.

Lawrence left the cast of Bergen by talking about working again with Fox, the very first sitcom of Lawrence, “Spin City”.

“He is one of the biggest people I have ever met,” said Lawrence about Fox. “He is one of my mentors. And the man, what a inspiring guy, the way he lives his life. So to find him, to work with him … I did not expect to have a strong career moments at this stage of my career and I was on the set about 10 days ago to watch Harrison Ford and Mike Fox and Candice Bergen – Oh a spoiler!”

Lawrence did not explain Bergen’s “narrowing” role beyond this shift. Lawrence co-created “shrinking” with Brett Goldstein and Jason Segel, who plays the role of Jimmy, a therapist whose sorrow about his deceased wife pushes him to start breaking the rules and making great changes in the life of his patients, friends, family and himself. The cast also includes Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Ted McGinley.

Besides Fox and Bergen, the new players in season 3 will understand Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola and Isabella Gomez. The other recent guest stays in Bergen include “and just like us” and “The Conners”.

Lawrence shared more on his work experience with Fox on “Spin City”, which he created and produced with Gary David Goldberg in their twenties. Fox left “Spin City” after four seasons in 2000 due to Parkinson’s symptoms. Fox also had an arc with two episodes in the sitcom NBC of Lawrence “Scrubs”, in which he played a genius doctor with a severe OCD.

“I was fortunate to have a mentor, and I created” Spin City “at the age of 25,” said Lawrence. “Mike Fox said things I wrote, and I was so afraid. I couldn’t give him notes, and I couldn’t do other things. And what finally broke the ice, and I think he did it on purpose. “Spin City” was in front of a live audience, and people aligned themselves in New York because it was not there, there was only one sitcom live. It was Michael J Fox’s show … [there was] A joke that I was convinced was going to be damn funny. And Mike is like, “guy, not funny”. This is the first time I have taken a stand. I say to myself: ‘I think it’s going to be funny, Mike, that’s the first scene. And he leaves, I don’t think. And I say to myself: “I think it’s funny.” He is like, “okay, I will do it.” And the first scene with a huge audience that crackles with electricity. We come to this first joke. He says it, and it’s a fucking crickets. Instead of continuing the scene, he just looked in front of me. He says, “Fucking happy now?”

“There are two lessons. One is that he had, by the way, a smile on his face. So he told me that it was going, and it gave me so much confidence,” added Lawrence. “But he also made me know that those of us who write do not have to have this kind of egg on our face, if it goes south. So, one of the things we always say to everyone is that you do something stupid and bold and that you go, and if it does not work, I do not promise on the show. I hope you like on television.”

The Lawrence panel also included Zach Braff (“scrubs”), Brett Goldstein (“Shrinking”, “Ted Lasso”), Josh Hopkins (“Cougar Town”, “Shrinking”), Phil Dunster (“Ted Lasso”) and Charly Clive, who plays in the next HBO series of Lawrence as a daughter of Steve Carell. (Dunster is also in this show.)

Braff is aboard the potential renewal of Lawrence’s “scrubs” in development in ABC. “We are all always friends,” said Braff. “People think it’s like a lie, and we tell people we all really drag. Donald and I are legitimately the best friends. He stays in my apartment while we are talking to New York. We are all really, very close and and therefore when it came, ABC, Disney, wanted to do it.

Braff also runs an episode of the Lawrence HBO series with Carell, Dunster, Clive and John C. McGinley.

Asked about the Apple TV + “Ted Lasso” revival, Lawrence took over the creator / star Jason Sudikis. (Which was not in Austin.) “He is Ted Lasso, but he is also the voice of the show,” said Lawrence. “And more than a creative partner, I rose somehow on his coating tails on that one.”

Addition of Goldstein, who joked the Slip Bergen of Lawrence: “Unlike Bill, who breaks the embargoes, I am not allowed to say anything, because Apple has a sniper on the roof that is carrying out an eye on me right now.
