Everything about bedbugs bites

For most people, bedbugs bodies cause itchy bumps that develop on the bite site in one day.

The bites generally resemble mosquito bites and will appear as a swollen red spot that could itch.

Many people see insects for or shortly after a bit or bite, helping them identify the culprit. But some insects, such as bedbugs, mosquitoes or spiders, can bite while a person sleeps, so he can take a certain effort to determine the type of bite it comes from the symptoms of the skin alone.

These may vary depending on the following features:

  • The size of the brand on the bite site (can be less visible on dark skin)
  • The level of pain or itching
  • The size, shape and number of rashes
  • The color and appearance of bite brands
  • The model of bites, like grouped or in a zigzag formation
  • The location of the bites on the body
  • How high the bumps are
  • If the bug is always attached to the skin, like during a tick bite
You may notice a single bite, while other times several bites will appear in a line.

“In most cases, they occur in clusters or zigzags of flat and itching bites,” explains Durham. “A bed bug will generally bit more than once, so the severity of your infestation can have a significant impact on the severity of your physical reaction to bites.”

Bedbugs differ from other bites in several ways:

  • They can appear anywhere on the skin that clothes do not cover while you sleep. The chip or chigger bites, on the other hand, generally appear only around your ankles, says Durham.
  • They sometimes bite zigzag.

  • Bedbugs bite normally do not have a red point in the center, while flea bites generally do so.

Bedbugs tend to stay longer than mosquito bites, although they look very similar.

But the bites will be different from one person to another, and some people will not develop any reaction. “The same Puniau could bite two different people and one could have no reaction and the other can have an extreme reaction with a swollen arm or itching,” explains Eric Braun, an entomologist certified by the board of directors and the head of technical services for the national company for antiparasitic Ventokil. Some people end up developing a rash that looks like an eczema.

It is also possible that you will not see a reaction the first time as a biting bed bug, as it can sometimes take the body to respond.

Some people will have an immediate reaction. For others, it could take two weeks to emerge. Your body will probably become more sensitive to bedbug bodies over time, and if you feel repeated bites, this could only be a question of a few seconds before your body shows an answer.

In most cases, the only way to say with certainty if it was a bed bug that is to seek evidence of bedbugs living in your home. “Once you start to notice the itching, the second gift is the presence of small blood spots on your sheets or mattresses, generally resembling rust plots,” explains Durham.

Durham advises the following methods to search for bedbugs:

  • You will probably only see them in their hiding places or crawling on the floor because, unlike other insects, bedbugs cannot fly or jump.
  • Check along the edges of your mattress. You can see the exoskeletons that bedbugs allowed as they ripen.
  • You may notice a mold that indicates bedbugs in the region.
  • It may be useful to check your bed with a flashlight in the middle of the night, when they are more active.
