“Calle Malaga” is preparing to reach other territories

Films Boutique has closed several additional territories with top independent distributors for Maryam Touzani’s “Calle Malaga,” which is Morocco’s entry for the Oscars’ international feature film category.
The new sales deals follow the American Film Market and were revealed ahead of the announcement of the Oscar shortlist.
The film, starring Carmen Maura in the lead role, was recently released in the following territories: Japan (Longride), Brazil (Imovision), Poland (Gutek Film), Argentina (Mirada Distribution), Baltics (A-One Films), Romania (Good Time Films) and Former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom).
The North American release with Strand Releasing is scheduled for February and the film will open the Palm Springs Film Festival.
In addition to the sale to Strand Releasing in North America, other previously announced territorial deals include France (Ad Vitam), Benelux (Cinéart), Spain (Caramel), Germany (Pandora), Italy (Movies Inspired), Australia and New Zealand (Potential), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Austria (Panda), Denmark (Camera Film), Sweden (Folkets Bio), Norway (Selmer Media), Finland (Future Film), Greece (Danaos), Hungary (Cirko) and Portugal. (Leopardo Filmes).
The film won audience awards in Venice, Denver, Mill Valley and Mar del Plata.
Besides Maura, the cast includes Marta Etura, Ahmed Boulane and María Alfonsa Rosso.
The film centers on Maria Angeles, a 79-year-old Spanish woman living alone in Tangier, Morocco. Her life is turned upside down when her daughter arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment in which she lives. Determined to stay, she does everything to get her house and belongings back and, against all odds, rediscovers love and sensuality.
The film is produced by Nabil Ayouch, and co-produced by Amine Benjelloun, Jean-Rémi Ducourtioux, Simon de Santiago, Fernando Bovaira, Fred Burle, Sol Bondy and Sebastian Schelenz.
“Calle Malaga” is a co-production between Morocco, France, Spain, Germany and Belgium. The production companies are Les Films du Nouveau Monde, Ali n’ Productions, Mod Producciones, One Two Films and Velvet Films.
