BYU Safety Tanner Wall wins Big 12 Weekly Award

PROVO, Utah – BYU safety Tanner Wall was named Big 12 co-defensive player of the week after his late interception helped seal the Cougars’ third straight victory in the holy war against Utah.

Wall had a season-high ten tackles and an interception of Devon Dampier that led to BYU’s game-winning touchdown.

He finished the game as the highest-rated player, according to PFF.

The 6’1, 205 pound dynamo has 29 tackles for the season and is tied for the team lead with two INTs.

Wall is a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and a semifinalist for the NFF William V. Campbell Trophy and the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award.

About Mur Tanner

Originally from Arlington, Virginia, Tanner Wall came to BYU after winning 6A Liberty Conference Player of the Year at Yorktown High School.

The two-way star totaled 55 receptions for 857 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior, finishing with 1,650 all-purpose yards.

He added 131 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, two INTs and eight assists.

Following a church mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Maceio, Brazil, Wall joined the Cougars prior to the 2021 season. A former favored wide receiver, his Cougar career only took off when Wall moved to defense in 2023, where he thrived at the safety position.

He played in five games, starting three, in 2023. Wall recorded 22 tackles while providing glimpses of his potential.

Wall started all 13 games at safety as part of a BYU 2024 defense that finished as the best defense in the Big 12. College Football Network named him to the All-Big 12 third team.

Wall had three interceptions as a redshirt junior and was co-leader in picks on BYU’s defense. He had a career-high 53 tackles and a pass deflection, along with his three interceptions.
