A man found dead in a blood pond is the subject of an investigation as a homicide at the annual festival of Burning Man Art and Music in the northwest desert of Nevada, according to the authorities.

The authorities were alerted to the man on Saturday during the rally in the Black Rock desert at around 110 miles north of Reno.

The deputies as well as the Rangers of the Bureau of Land Management responded and “found a single white adult man lying on the ground, obviously deceased,” the Sheriff’s office of Pershing said on Sunday in a press release.

The survey included interviewing several participants and completing a perimeter in the area where the body was found in the makeshift camp called Black Rock City. The identity of the dead male was not immediately known, said the sheriff’s office. No other information has been published.

The body was taken to the office of a medical examiner.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Bureau said it seems to be a singular crime, but has urged everyone at the festival to be vigilant about their environment and their knowledge. The festival ends on Monday.

Burning Man officials said in a statement that they cooperate with the police and asked the participants of Black Rock City not to interfere with their investigation.

“The security and well-being of our community are essential,” said the press release. He noted that the support services, including a crisis support team, are available and that participants have access to free Wi-Fi connection if they need to communicate with expensive beings.

The annual gathering in the Black Rock desert attracts tens of thousands of artists, musicians and activists each year for a mixture of Wilderness campsite and avant-garde performance, underlined by the burning of a large wooden effigy of a man.
