Barcelona poured out the former star of the Premier League to relieve financial pressures

Barcelona would have concluded an agreement with Oriol Romeu who will see the experienced midfielder from a free transfer 12 months before the expiration of his contract.

The 33 -year -old man came by the La Masia Academy of the club, but only made one appearance in the first team before joining Chelsea in 2011.

Spells in Valencia, Stuttgart, Southampton, for whom he played more than 200 times, and Girona followed before removing a dream return to Barça in 2023, mainly replacing Sergio Busquets.

Flick No Romeu fan

He was a regular under Xavi for much of the 2023/24 season, but the new boss Hansi Flick clearly said he would not be part of his plans and that he was quickly shipped to Girona on loan.

He failed to go to the Barça pre-season tour this year and his departure was inevitable, even if it took a while for the starting package to be successfully negotiated.

Rac1 reports that the process is now over and Romeu is free to find a new club.

The good news for Barça is that he is another player in the wage bill and will help facilitate the registrations of Gerard Martin and Rony Bardghji.

As for Romeu, Mundo Deportivo reports that the midfielder aroused the interest of other Liga clubs as well as several in MLS.
