Brijesh Sharma reacts after getting IPL contract with RR

Jammu and Kashmir cricketer Brijesh Sharma shared his happiness after being selected in the IPL by Rajasthan Royals. He also reflected on his journey from Jammu and Kashmir to Bengal.
From Jammu to Bengal
Rajasthan Royals signed Brijesh Sharma at a base price of INR 30 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction. The right-arm pacer moved to Bengal to get more opportunities and regular chances to play.
He had an impressive stint in the Bengal Pro T20 League, proving his success. He picked up 11 wickets in seven matches, finding a place among the top ten wicket-takers of the tournament. His strong performance earned him a contract in the IPL.
Speaking to ANI, Brijesh said, “I am currently representing the Bengal Cricket Association. I am from Madha and currently residing in Udhampur. My journey has had its ups and downs. I played for the Jammu State team, got dropped and learned a lot under the leadership of Deepak Punia at Unique Sports Club in Delhi for the last two years. The facilities are excellent there and they made me aware of the discipline and things I needed to bring to play cricket at a higher level.”
“Thank you to my family, my coaches, my friends”
Brijesh comes from a humble background and his father works as a labourer. After being selected in the IPL, he thanked his family, friends and coaches for supporting him at every stage of his life.
“I am 27 years old, I come from a modest family and my father’s hard work as a laborer over the years has paid off. My friends have also been a great source of support. Some of them helped me financially and emotionally in all my bad times, whenever I faced problems and doubts. They all trusted me. I would like to thank my family, coaches and friends for all this. I didn’t have that much confidence in myself than them,” he added.
Brijesh’s father on his selection
Brijesh’s father Kapoor Chand Sharma said their hard work had finally paid off. “We are happy. His hard work has paid off. I hope everyone works hard and gets rewards like this. We get calls from parents who congratulate us. He has been interested in sports since he was a child and often got beaten for not going to school and showing interest in studies. But slowly, by the grace of God, everything has worked out. We should encourage our children to pursue their field of interest,” he declared.
