Brazil coach Acelotti is sentenced to one year in the Spanish tax case

A Madrid court pronounced on Wednesday for a year and a fine of € 386,000 ($ 375,000) to Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti for having failed to pay taxes on his Image income when he was director of Real Madrid in 2014, the court said in a statement.

Ancelotti is likely to receive a suspended sentence, because the Spanish law is such that any sentence of less than two years for a non -violent crime rarely requires an accused without previous conviction to serve prison terms.

Prosecutors asked for a four -year and nine -month prison sentence and a fine of 3.2 million euros ($ 3.7 million).

They argued that in 2014 and 2015, Ancelotti only declared the salary that he had been paid by Madrid and omitted image rights income in his declarations of Spanish income.

Ancelotti is the last in a series of high -level players and coaches to be surveyed by the Spanish tax authorities.

Many cases – including those of the main actors such as Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal and Diego Costa of Spain – have been settled amicably, with strong paid fines.

In 2023, however, the Supreme Court confirmed the acquittal of the Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, after refusing to settle and defend his innocence.
