Braves to honor the veteran launcher Charlie Morton in the final of the season against the pirates

Without a wait room playoffs, Atlanta’s brave brave will honor one of the team’s favorite players with the starting assignment on Sunday when they welcome Pittsburgh Pirates in the last game of the regular season.
The pirates (71-90) won the first two games in the series and won six of their last seven games. The Braves (75-86) lost three in a row and dropped a series in Pittsburgh for the first time since 2017.
The braves will give the 41-year-old right-hander Charlie Morton (9-11, 5.89 ERA) which should be the final beginning of his long career in a major league. The veteran will face Johan Oviedo (2-0, 3.57).
Morton should launch about a round and give in to Chris Sale, the starter planned.
The Braves did something similar at the end of Phil Niekro’s career. In 1987, Atlanta brought back the 48 -year -old Knuckleballer for a last home departure before retiring.
“We talked about it, trying to think about the best possible way to make it a special day since we brought back Charlie and he signified so much for the organization,” said Atlanta manager Brian Snitker. “This is something that you can control if he is an opener, and do a good thing by honoring him as well as his career and what he is supposed to, not only, but for baseball.”
Morton was initially drafted by the Braves in 2001 and made his debut in 2008. He was exchanged in Pittsburgh and played with Philadelphia, Houston and Tampa Bay before joining the Braves in 2021.
He played with the brave of 2021-2024, but left after signing a free agent agreement with Baltimore during the offseason. It was exchanged in Detroit on the deadline but was published last week. The Braves signed Morton and brought her home for a last departure before retiring.
“The way my year left, it was crazy,” said Morton. “So, the idea of coming back and being with the guys here – the year has been surreal, in often bad ways. So having the chance to feel a little comfortable, a little peace is pleasant.”
Morton engraved a permanent place in the heart of Atlanta fans when he helped them win the championship in 2021. His right -up was fractured when he was struck by an online journey during the first World Series match against Houston, but he continued to launch and withdrew three strikers before being out of the game because of the pain.
Oviedo made his ninth departure after missing all the 2024 season due to arm surgery. He returned in mid-August and gave more than two points in a single appearance.
During his last departure on Tuesday, a 4-2 victory against Cincinnati, Oviedo worked 4 2/3 rounds and granted two points on two strokes and three goals on balls with a summit of seven stick withdrawals.
“It was good to see Oviedo come back and do what he did,” said Pirates from Pirates, Tommy Pham. “He will help us a lot. I think it is a large part of the future of this team. Returning an injury is still difficult. He has shown enormous perseverance.”
Morton has a 1-0 file with an MPM of 2.92 in two career apparitions against pirates. Oviedo has no decision with an MPM of 5.06 in two career appearances against the Braves.
