Brandi Carlile establishes the first album in four years, “Back to myself”

Brandi Carlile announced his first solo album in four years, “Returning to Myyself”, which is expected to be released on October 24. Carlile’s co -producers on the project are Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon, this last renown of Bon Iver.

The first single of the album, its title, was released simultaneously with the announcement of the album on Wednesday morning, as is a video clip directed by Floria Sigismondi.

“Back to myself” finds the Grammy winner 11 times on a new label, or Labels, both which are part of Universal Music Group. The album will be a joint outing of Interscope and Lost Highway, the latter being a freshly relaunched American imprint which is now part of the Interscope fold.

This is her first release by herself since “in this Silent Days” of 2021, although earlier this year, Carlile and Elton John published a collaborative album, “Who Believe In Angels?” The new single of Carlile arrives only four days after the end of the eligibility period for the Grammys 2026, so that the two projects will not compete for rewards.

Carlile worked with its three co -producers separately and also, sometimes, collectively. She collaborated with Drawing (the national member who produced Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams) in her Long Pond studio in the Hudson valley. Meanwhile, she worked with Watt (Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga) at the Henson Studios in Hollywood. In some cases, Draw and Watt worked in tandem with it. Vernon joined the fourth producer of the album on the song “Human”, but he also added voices on the song “A War with Time” and contributed instrumental work throughout the project.

Beyond three-star co-producers, instrumental support comes from its longtime collaborators The Hansteroth Twins Plus Sistastrings (Monique and Chauntee Ross), the drummers Matt Chamberlain and Chad Smith and the keyboardist Josh Klinghoffer.

The song title of “Returning to Myself” reflects the idea that Carlile stands out at least momentarily from his role as a musical catalyst – someone who supported Joni Mitchell, collaborated with Elton and produced a Grammy Winning Tacker and other artists – to focus on the position alone and looking more inward. But in this song, she also debates to focus on oneself after a period of sharing is necessary, selfish or perhaps a little of both.

“I think people will hear this song in different ways,” she said. “Some will hear him as a call to return to themselves. Some will hear it as a justification not to do so. And I love it because it is a deeply conflicting feeling. There is no time in this song. Is it just a contemplation of “is the lighting of the foundry or the illumination of learning dynamism and sacrificial love?”

Among the song titles that will intrigue the most fans on First Blush is “Joni”, a Paean of his friend and hero Joni Mitchell. The one who will already be familiar to his supporters is “You Without Me”, a version of which was included on the collaborative duo album with Elton John that they published earlier this year; The interpretation included on his solo album is a whole new recording.

The remaining songs of the album of 10 songs are “A Woman Supervise”, “Anniversary”, “Church & State”, “No One Knows Us” and “A Long Goodbye”.

Regarding musical reference points for the album, Carlile says in promotional material: “One thing that came to my mind very early was Emmylou Harris’ revolutionary album” Wrecking Ball “. I loved this album of all my life and I referenced it musically in the studio that I cannot count, but I never contemplated it conceptually. It’s amazing how many people need to do that!

Carlile published a longer declaration offering reflections on the title song.

“”I am not my favorite person with whom to spend my time, “she wrote.” Return to myself is not only a lonely thing, but painfully boring to do. So much so that I am not at all interested in doing so. I prefer to double, triple and quadruple on co-dependence, which I came to learn that outside of 12-step programs and high school relationships, is not really unhealthy at all …

“”For me, the key to learning to “be alone” is not alone. It is alone in a crowded part. It is hearing an unexpected doorbell and wondering who was shown to watch me read my book and bite my nails all day. That a guest can be a deep inclination on a cheap bottle of wine or simply an increase in eyebrows and a gesture towards the refrigerator while I play Zelda … where I choose myself with someone so close to me, I can hear them relax.

“”People want to be more together in silence than we allow it in our time. He falls deep in the wheels of the car on a gravel road. The possibility of the visitor. The “not alone – ness” of all this …

“”Unity gave me everything I love in being alive. Starting with my original family in a single large mobile house, gathered around a wood stove until I live with my group, haunting my wife wherever it goes, raising my children on a tourist bus, learning at the feet of Joni Mitchell, to make music with my biggest hero of all time, Elton John.

“”Why is it heroic attack, when the tense work of unity is so much more interesting? … Because I don’t want to do it. Because I don’t want to go back to myself. And that’s why I will do it.
