Born Again Season 2 will run its course with one of the MCU’s most wasted characters
Daredevil: Born Again featured a plethora of characters for fans to enjoy as a successor to Netflix. Daredevil brought in some new faces with the old gang. Inclusions such as BB Urich (Genneya Walton), Heather (Maragrita Levieva), and Daniel Blake (Michael Gandolfini) fit almost perfectly alongside The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), and foggy (Elden Henson). However, not all characters were treated as effectively. The creative overhaul has led to some being woefully underutilized, like Muse’s (Hunter Doohan) a disappointing death mid-season. Although this has gone unnoticed and represents One of the most underrated characters in the MCU is undoubtedly Jack Duquesne (Tony Dalton), AKA The Swordsman.
Duquesne first appeared in Hawk Eyewhere its charm and mystery made it an immediate fan favorite. Although he had some fascinating scenes in Born again it brought tension beneath the surface, his final ending for season 1 saw him imprisoned, and it felt like the character might be pushed aside. However, Dalton’s recent comments should fill fans with hope as he hinted at a bigger role for his character in the upcoming second season of Born againparticularly in regards to how this might relate to the broader battle for New York.
Tony Dalton filmed several action stunts for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2
During an interview with ComicsMoviesis Josh Wilding for his role in the new thriller, House trapDalton was asked about his enjoyment watching the action scenes in his new film, and then asked if he would appear in the MCU again. The previous topic turned out to be incredibly relevant to his answer. Dalton explained that “I did a lot of action stuff in the next one that’s coming out, Daredevil. And man, was I hurt. I was seriously injured. I mean, I think I must have broken a rib or something because for two, three weeks I was in bed. I had bruises everywhere [my] back. It was tough, man. These guys are going hard.” While everyone hopes that such an injury is not common on set, and it is unlikely to be the case, with the fear of setbacks as shown Tom Hollandreported a concussion on the set of Spider-Man: A Whole New Daythe supposed intensity of Dalton’s scenes suggests a much more important role in season 2 of Born again.
This wouldn’t be the first time fans saw Jack Duquesne in action. In continuation of its role in Hawk Eyethere was a clip from the BB Report that showed Duquesne under the guise of his vigilante nickname, The Swordsman, defending a woman from street thugs. This is why he was imprisoned by Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) at the end of season 1 of Born again. However, what was frustrating was the minor nature of this action, while Dalton’s comments suggest a greater emphasis when it comes to his character’s struggles next season..
If Dalton takes more success as Duquesne, then that involves a much more arduous fight with a greater amount of choreography in place, which feels like a scene in itself, rather than a cameo appearance like BB Report was. Given his talent that saw him embarrass street thugs last season, this also hints that he’s fighting tougher opponents, meaning a fight with actual antagonists could be on the cards. With Matt (Charlie Cox) forming a team of heroes to fight Fisk’s authoritarian regime in New York, which will see Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) join the series, it would make sense for him to recruit those Fisk imprisoned, including Duquesne for his bonus of whatever resources he had left after Fisk tried to take control of as much wealth as possible..
Jack Duquesne deserves more screen time in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2
As previously mentioned, Duquesne was one of the most underused characters in Season 1 of Born againespecially given the limitation of his agency and interactions. His verbal confrontations with Fisk were one of the few times anyone, besides Matt, saw through Fisk’s veneer of grace and actually dared to stand up to him.. These still felt like they were teasing a straight battle between the two that didn’t seem as one-sided as it could have been. His scenes in Hawk Eye The finale portrays him as someone who was naive in getting involved in the climatic battle and only survived in a comedic manner, as his comedic charm was enhanced with an air of intimidation towards Fisk. Rather than having a superficial laugh with the character, his playful jabs ratcheted up the tension.
See more in season 2 of Born again would also add another layer of class to the acting pedigree already on display in the Disney+ show. With outstanding performance in projects such as You better call Saul And Mr Avilaeveryone knows what Dalton can bring to a series, whether in English or Spanish. Not only would it add to Matt’s mission, but it looks like a ensuring that Cox and Dalton would be able to create an engaging scene together, especially given their characters’ differences. Although they both believe in the objective morality of what is right and wrong, Dalton’s Duquesne exhibits an elitism, an aspect that made him a presumed villain for Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) In Hawk Eyewhich Matt might disagree with, given his working-class background.
Overall, only good things can come from a greater presence of Tony Dalton’s Duquesne in Born again Season 2. The character’s status as a fan favorite makes him an obvious choice for more screen time, and also shows how Born again learns from the mistakes made in Season 1. We’ll have to wait and see how Dalton’s action scenes play out in Season 2, but fans should be more than excited to see more of The Swordsman in action, especially in regards to how it could affect the larger narrative of Daredevil: Born Again.
