“Boogie Nights” returns to the disco haze – this time in razor-sharp 4K. Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 opus will be released in 4K Ultra HD for the first time ever on December 16. The new remastered edition arrives both digitally and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and is available for pre-order here.
First released in 1997, “Boogie Nights” earned three Academy Award nominations, including supporting roles for Burt Reynolds and Julianne Moore and a screenplay nod for Anderson. The film’s vast cast, from Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly and Heather Graham to Philip Seymour Hoffman and William H. Macy, helped set the template for the director’s signature ensemble style, later seen in “Magnolia” and “There Will Be Blood.”

The 4K package is packed with archival and newly discovered bonus features, including two new panel conversations from the American Cinematheque – one with Anderson and Reilly, another with Anderson solo – alongside original commentary from the film’s director and cast, extended scenes, in-depth character material (“The John C. Reilly Files” is 34 minutes long) and the rare Michael Penn “Try” music video. Previously released extras like the Buck and Amber van scene, footage of Rollergirl and “Mixing ‘Feel the Heat'” also make the list, rounding out one of the most extensive special features lists for a New Line library title in years.
“Darkly comic, wildly entertaining and completely original, ‘Boogie Nights’ is one of the most ambitious films to come out of Hollywood in some time,” Emanuel Levy wrote in a statement. Variety criticism when the film was released. “Covering the height of the disco era, 1977-84, pic offers a visually stunning exploration of the adult entertainment industry, centering on a hardcore movie crew whose members form a close-knit extended family.”
The title will be available on major digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, as well as on disc at retailers nationwide.
