Toronto – – Vladimir Guerrero Jr. struck a two -round circuit in seventh round, helping Max Scherzer and the Blue Jays of Toronto beat the Cubs of Chicago 2-1 Thursday.
Guerrero’s great success to Matthew Boyd raised Toronto at the head of Al East to the victory of the series. It was the 20th circuit of the season to the stars slugger.
Scherzer (3-2) launched more than seven rounds while improving at 6-2 in 12 career starts against Cubs. He authorized a point and five strokes.
Jeff Hoffman managed the ninth for his 27th stop in 32 chances. Toronto improved at 40-20 at home.
Boyd (11-6) granted two strokes in seven rounds. He withdrew five and walked one.
Boyd walked Davis Schneider to start the seventh. Ernie Clement followed with a sacrifice before Guerrero borders a 0-2 402 feet in the center left.
The Cubs had only one stroke of scherzer before Michael Busch was in depth with one in the sixth for his 24th circuit.
Promoted from Triple-A Iowa before the match, Cubs Owen Caissie prospect made his major league debut at around 30 miles east of his birthplace in Burlington, Ontario. He went 0 for 4 with a stick withdrawn.
Scherzer was released after Matt Shaw double in the eighth. Brendon Little came and walked Seiya Suzuki, pinch striker, before the two runners are on wild land. Little left after withdrawing Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker. Serrantony Domínguez attracted Carson Kelly to end the threat.
The Blue Jays are a 24-12 record of the major league in the interleague.
CUBS: RHP Colin Rea (9-5, 4.09 ERA) should start on Friday against Rhp Braxton Ashcraft pirates (3-2, 3.19 ERA).
Blue Jays: RHP Chris Bassitt (11-6, 4.18 ERA) should start on Friday against the Rangers RHP Jacob Degrom (10-5, 2.86 ERA).
