Blow for Manchester City with Kovacic to miss the Club World Cup

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic was out of the club’s World Cup after undergoing surgery during an Achilles injury.
The Croatian international suffered an disrupted end of the season, being excluded from the team for the final defeat of the FA Cup against Crystal Palace due to a minor injury before returning against Bournemouth and being sent to the city’s 3-1 victory.
He then missed the victory of Fulham who saw the men of Pep Guardiola ensuring a place in the Champions League next season.

Kovacic will now spend the summer to recover in the hope that he can be in good shape for the start of next season.
A press release from the city said: “Manchester City may confirm that Mateo Kovacic has undergone surgery for an Achilles injury.
“The Croatian midfielder should now miss the FIFA club world cup as the city went to the United States in June.
“Mateo will spend the summer to rehabilitate the operation and everyone from the club wishes him rapid recovery.”
The first match of the city at the Club World Cup occurs on June 18 when they face Wydad Casablanca.
They will then face Al Ain and Juventus in group G.
