Bison gorged man in Yellowstone National Park

Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming – A Florida man was embarrassed by a bison in Yellowstone National Park after officials said he was approaching the animal too closely.

The incident occurred Sunday around 3:15 p.m. in the Parc du Parc park area, according to a press release. The 47 -year -old Cape Coral man suffered minor injuries and was treated on the spot by emergency medical staff.

This marks the first injury linked to the Bison in Yellowstone this year. There were two incidents reported in 2024 and one in 2023.

Park managers recall the following visitors:

  • Wild animals can be aggressive if people do not respect their space. It is your responsibility to stay more than 25 meters from all large animals – bison, elk, America’s sheep, deer, moose and coyotes – and at least 100 meters from bears and wolves. If wildlife is approaching, get away from it to always keep these vision distances safely.
  • Bison will defend their space when threatened and have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal. They are unpredictable and can operate three times faster than humans.
