Months after revealing that he was diagnosed with a treatable brain condition, the legendary musician, 76, said to the people he drives with the punches.
“I know that many people are worried about me and my health, but I’m fine,” he said. “What I have is something that very few people know, including me, no matter how much you try to look for them. I do my best to work and recover it. ”
Joel announced in May that he had received a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a treatable brain condition that can affect hearing, vision and balance. The singer of “Piano Man” says that the balance has so far been his greatest challenge – and this is also what alerted him for the first time that something is not Lens.

While Joel – whose legendary career has seen renewed attention in recent weeks thanks to the new HBO documentary Billy Joel: And that’s okay – admits that he finds his diagnosis “disturbing”, he reassures fans that everything is fine.
“It was frightening, but I’m fine,” he said. “I just wanted to inform people, don’t worry I’m dead and anything.”
While announcing his diagnosis in May, Joel also revealed that he had been forced to cancel all the planned concerts, affirming in a statement at the time that his state had been “exacerbated by recent concert shows”.
“Billy undergoes specific physical therapy and it was advisable to refrain from occurring during this recovery period,” the statement said. “Billy is grateful for the excellent care he receives from fans during this period and impatiently awaits the day he can go on stage.”
The star himself added: “I am sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for your understanding.”
At the time, his wife Alexis also shared a declaration of support with a family photo on Instagram which included their daughters Della, 9 years old, and Remy, 7.

“Thank you for the outpouring of love and support,” she wrote. “We are very grateful to the wonderful care and the rapid diagnosis that we have received.
Joel’s daughter, Alexa Ray, 39, whom he shares with ex-wife Christie Brinkley, also showed her support with a message on Instagram who said, in part: “We love you and we have you, pop!”
“My father is the strongest and most resilient man I have never known … and he has fully determined to recover completely with treatments during physical therapy while he continues to regain his strength,” she continued.
