Former PBS host and former Boeing engineer Bill Nye, “The Science Guy,” will join former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in leading a rally with Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger on Tuesday in their party forefather’s hometown.
Spanberger will gather with Buttigieg and Nye in Charlottesville – the city that gave birth to President Thomas Jefferson – while across town, at the college founded by America’s third president, GOP lieutenant governor candidate John Reid will headline a public “Dome Room” forum hosted by pollster Larry Sabato of the University of California’s Center for Politics. Virginia.
Spanberger’s rally comes as she attempts to separate from scandal-plagued attorney general candidate Jay Jones.
Nye and Spanberger should receive a welcome in the remarkable blue dot on the red sea of the rural Shenandoah Valley that is Charlottesville.

Trump Winery and Albemarle Estate Lodging, run by Eric Trump, is across town, down the street from Monticello itself. The road that connects Jefferson’s estate to Trump’s is regularly lined with dozens of large American flags adjoining the estate’s property line.
That contrast will be evident Tuesday, as Spanberger recruits celebrities in hopes of propelling her to victory, while Reid, who has claimed to be neck and neck with Democrat Ghazala Hashmi, also seeks to engage with the public in the final days.
Although she condemned Jones’ comments, Spanberger continued to refuse to call on her to quit — while this week attacking her Republican opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, over her pro-life views.

An ad released Monday criticized Earle-Sears’ support for a near-total ban on abortion and in turn positioned Spanberger as the champion of individual rights.
Switching from medical science to engineering, Nye resurfaced this week shouting at President Donald Trump at a “No Kings” protest in his hometown of Washington, D.C., where he accused some MAGA followers of being “Confederates.”
“We are here to tell our lawmakers that what is happening in our government is wrong. They must stop the abuses of this irritable president and his circle of sycophants… This president and his associates cannot tolerate dissent. To them, our freedom of speech is frightening. They are arresting people and denying due process in the courts,” Nye said in part.

The former star of PBS’s “Bill Nye the Science Guy” and the engineer by trade who invented an aeronautical tool while working for Boeing, criticized Trump for trying to “silence TV hosts.”
Asked about Nye’s move from science to politics, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson remarked: “You mean Bill Nye, the liberal activist?”
Although the Republicans are not the party typically associated with major Hollywood and celebrity endorsements, during his decade in politics, Trump has attracted several very vocal stars to his camp.
“Charles In Charge” star Scott Baio has been most vocal lately, saying that in 2024 he believes the United States has always been a “MAGA” nation.

Jon Voight has regularly posted harsh X-rated videos addressing the public and/or public officials about Trump’s good faith:
“Who else has faced greater challenges and enemies since Lincoln?” he asked.
Mel Gibson, who played a version of Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion in “The Patriot,” praised Trump while noting that 2024 Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has “the IQ of a fence post.” Trump has since named him a “special ambassador.”

Just across Skyline Drive from the site of Jones’ rally is the former district of then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert — the Republican who Jones had imagined shooting in the head in texts revealed earlier this month.
Earle-Sears intervened several times during the debate between the two gubernatorial candidates to urge Spanberger to ask Jones to drop out once and for all.
On Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas headlined a fundraiser with Earle-Sears at the home of a Tysons Corner real estate developer.
