BFI London Film Festival Names 2025 Juries, directed by Elizabeth Karlsen

The co-founder of films number 9 Elizabeth Karlsen (Singing,, Made in Dagenham) and filmmaker Kahlil Joseph (Blknws: Terms and Conditions) will assert itself at the official jury of the competition at the BFI London Film Festival this year.

The festival, from October 8 to 19, revealed Wednesday that the Oscar -winning Karlsen was appointed president of the jury, with Joseph and the winning film critic of Pulitzer, Justin Chang, joining. Among those who have argued for the best film in the British capital this year are included Hedda With Tessa Thompson, Jonatan Etzler’s Saoirse Ronan-Led Bad apples and Mona Fastvold Ann Lee’s willWith Amanda Seyfried.

Elsewhere, the first jury for contests of feature films (Sutherland Award) will be led by the British filmmaker and co-founder of Factory Fifteen, Kibwe Tavares. Tavares made his debut as a director with Cooking (2023), co-produced with Daniel Kaluuya, which was presented in first as the LFF closing film in 2023. Anja Fröhner of the Zurich Film Festival and director Nadia Latif will join Tavares.

Eloïse King, the first of whom is Doc is leading the jury. Shadow scholars was created at LFF last year. She previously founded the Women on Docs Curatorial program to defend women and non-binary work in non-fiction, and founded White Teeth Films. Josh Siegel, curator of the Museum of Modern Art, will serve next to King, with Reece Goodwin, curator at the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI).

Ming-Jung Kuo, the artistic director of the Singapore International Film Festival, also advisor to the Locarno film festival and currently a consultant for the Directors of Cannes, will direct the jury which selects the best short film. British Philippin writer-director of Bug (2024), Matty Crawford, and the director of animation Lee Ott (Dragfox) Complete the short jury.

“We are delighted to share our 2025 competition titles with the public and our estimated members of the jury,” said Kristy Matheson, director of the BFI London Film Festival. “My thanks to each of them for their generous participation in the festival this year.”
