Ben Casparius of Dodgers is settling as a sparkles partner of Shohei Ohtani – Orange County Register

Kansas City, Mo. – Ben Casparius has become the other half of Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani should make his third departure as a launcher on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals – and Casparius should make his third appearance in a “bulk” role behind Ohtani.
“I just think that it is somehow fallen in this way – with the working days of Shohei, with Ben when it is online. It’s just worked in this way,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts about the appearance. “In fact, when we chose to build Ben as a starter, it was independent of Shohei. Then it just worked in this way.”
Casparius had won this opportunity by being one of the most effective dodgers in a versatile role. He managed an MPM of 2.93 in his first 40 sleeves this season, launching more than one round in 14 of the 21 appearances.
He made a start, holding the Padres de San Diego to a race in four rounds, before slipping into the twinning with Ohtani where he was not as effective – five points granted more than 8⅔ sleeves.
“With Shohei who comes out of a rehash cure, I think that is perfectly suited,” said Casparius. “If he has 30 locations or something else – I don’t know what his number of land is, but he went a round twice. I have 70.80 throws. You get six sleeves of your starter, that’s usually what we are trying to do.”
Mainly a starter throughout his career in the minor league, Casparius went to the Majors last season by leaving the enclosure of the Lights. Doing the same behind Othani does not take any major adjustment, he said.
“I’m just trying to keep it simple,” he said. “It is the same state of mind. But at the same time, trying to navigate three times in a program, trying to find ways to be creative, to mix where I find my ball fast.
“I felt like I walked in the enclosure of the lifts which was new enough for me, in general. This is just something where it is a team need, obviously with a higher number of heights, being able to enter the fifth or sixth round, anything. I have my entire career.
Ohtani has faced a total of nine strikers in two rounds so far with counts of 28 and 18 years old. He was able to see the second round for the first time on Saturday.
“I think it’s hope,” said Roberts. “I don’t want to put him in a box but, yes, seeing him go there for a second round is our hope.”
But dodgers are still not in a hurry to stretch Ohtani at the workload of a full starter.
“The great thing about where we are, and honestly, is that we just don’t have to be indebted for anything,” said Roberts. “Because everything is additive with its sleeves. It does not take a place of alignment where if you do not get five or six from a starter, it could be expensive. You get a round, two sleeves, three sleeves, it’s always additive. So I think honestly, for us, it’s an outing at a time and seeing what is the next one.
“Having the opportunity to do what we want, given what our list looks like … It is the beauty of Shohei that can present.”
EXCLUDED
Kiké Hernandez made his 20th start against a left -handed launcher on Friday evening. This is the role of peloton that Hernandez fulfilled for several years with the Dodgers.
But he is not up to his story against left -handers. Upon entering Friday’s match, he only reached .177 with a .650 OPS against left -handers this season – well below his career standards of .251 and 0.783.
Roberts has recognized that “part of his role in the team is to be productive against left -handed launchers” and the manager is committed to giving him the opportunity to rediscover this production.
“I am, for the moment,” said Roberts. “He showed it throughout his career. I think that giving (Michael) comfort one day here or there compared to a left -hander, giving Max (Muncy) one day here or there compared to a left -hander, I think it makes a lot of sense. ”
Hernandez had 0 for 3 but shot a walk and scored a left -hander from the Royals Run, Noah Cameron.
Glazing
The second start of rehabilitation of the right-hander Tyler Glasnow for Triple-A Oklahoma City did not go very well.
Glasnow granted nine lobby – seven strokes (including two doubles), a walk, a striker struck – in just 2⅓ sleeves. He also launched wild land and granted five stolen bases while he was on the mound.
Five points were charged with Glasnow which launched 66 throws, only 37 strikes.
