Kat Dennings wasn’t looking for love when she filmed an embarrassing regional commercial early in her career; however, she left the set with her very first date planned.

The 39 year old man Change gear The actress revisited the commercial — in which she played a bedwetter named Amy Scott — during an appearance on Monday, October 13 on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

During her interview, she confirmed to host Jimmy Kimmel that she started acting around the age of 9 and took each role very seriously.

“I’ve done a few regional commercials, real heavy hitters,” she joked, prompting Kimmel, 57, to tell her he found a video of her that was “pretty special.” Dennings good-naturedly replied, “I think I might suspect that I know what you’re about to do to me” before Kimmel started the throwback clip.

In it, Amy Scott from Denning appeared alongside her childhood friend Tim Summers to resolve their bedwetting problem.

“No need to whisper, Tim. Our secret is totally out. We’re putting on this show, and we’re doing it because we’ve been there. We’ve beaten bedwetting, and you can too,” young Dennings proclaimed.

“I took it very… You know, I had goals. I really wanted to become an actress. It was like a three-day shoot. It was like a serious production,” she recalled, adding that it was for “this weird drug we were selling to kids.”

More importantly, she revealed that romance was brewing on set.

“Adorably, this boy, I had a really big crush on him during filming because he’s a really cute boy. And I was, I think, 11, and he might have been 12. And he ended up being my first date,” she confessed to the delight of the audience.

The anecdote prompted Kimmel to proclaim, “So bedwetting brings people together!”

Aside from early dates, Dennings is now married to musician Andrew WK, whom she married in November 2023.

“He’s a very loving, kind, gentle person. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met,” she told PEOPLE about her husband in January 2025. “When we started talking and seeing each other, I was shocked at how he was so direct with me, and I was used to a little more playfulness.”

“I was used to men being more suspicious, and I was really on high alert for that. I was really suspicious,” she added.

Looking back on the ad, Dennings said she didn’t worry at the time about it being embarrassing, joking, “I mean, I don’t think anyone has seen that until now.”

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen to me, but I’m excited. I think it deserves to happen,” she added.

At the time, she said that despite the embarrassing content of the advert, she was “just excited to be there.”

In January, Dennings spoke to PEOPLE about her experience in the industry as a teenager, noting that she faced horrible comments about her appearance.

“Back when I was auditioning and starting to act, it was a very different environment than it is today,” she said. “There wasn’t a lot of inclusiveness at all. It was very hard. There was a lot of extremely negative feedback and people weren’t holding back.”

She noted that casting directors could be “very cruel.”

“It was pretty crazy to think about. I’m like, ‘How can you say that about a little kid? It’s crazy,'” she added. “Like, I was 12. I was going to an audition and I was doing it, and my manager was calling me and I was like, ‘How did it go?’ And they said, “Well, they thought you weren’t pretty enough and you were fat.” » “

The actress said she was undeterred by the comments and ultimately decided executives were wrong.

“That was my attitude. For some reason, it didn’t break my spirit. I was like, ‘I’ll show them,'” she shared. “I guess it’s a prop to my parents, because they were like, ‘They’re idiots. Don’t listen to them.’ And I said to myself, “They’re idiots, not me.” » “

Today, she praises the industry for being “much gentler” and more accepting, saying, “There’s body positivity, there’s inclusiveness, there’s representation and there was none of that before. It was really disgusting.”
