The report also indicated that head coach Gautam Gambir had initially taken a rear seat during the first six months of his mandate, allowing Rohit Sharma to direct and implement his strategies.
However, after loss of series of tests against New Zealand at home and in Australia, Gambir took control. In particular, Rohit now only plays the ODIs after his retirement from T20is and Test Cricket.
“A player from Rohit’s stature in a leadership role would have meant that he could have conducted his philosophy in the locker room. But with him playing only in the ODI, a format that is the least played, it could have disturbed the culture of the team,” said the Times of India cited a BCCI source.
“Gambir had taken a rear seat in the tests and the ODIs during the first six months of its mission, but the debacles against New Zealand and Australia prompted it to take matters into their own hands,” added the source.
