After suffering a blow to his right hand on the second day, the BCCI medical team decided not to let Sai Sudharsan enter the field on the third day.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical team has provided an update on the status of Sai Sudharsan’s injury on Day 3 of IND vs WI 2nd Test. The Tamil Nadu star copped a blow to his hand as he took a stunning catch at forward short leg to dismiss John Campbell on Day 2 of the contest. While he did receive immediate medical attention, Sai has not been allowed to take the field on Day 3.

Why Sai Sudharsan isn’t fielding on Day 3?

As per Times of India, the BCCI medical team informed that Sudharsan injury wasn’t serious in nature and that he was being monitored. As a precautionary measure, the Tamil Nadu batter has not been allowed to take the field on Day 3 of IND vs WI 2nd Test in New Delhi.

The incident occurred on Day 2 Jadeja as pitched a ball outside to induce an edge off Campbell’s willow that then carried to Sudharsan. But Campbell had other ideas. He didn’t wish to let Jadeja settle. The Windies opener had paddle-swept the Indian left-arm spinner for a four on the first ball of his spell and then pulled out a slog sweep. Campbell timed it well, but it hit Sudharsan in the chest and stuck as the fielder tried to defend himself against the shot.

Sudharsan managed to score a gritty 87-run knock in his 1st innings, missing out on what would have been his maiden Test century. Meanwhile, India managed to amass a mammoth 518/5 total before declaring their innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 175 runs and captain Shubman Gill scoring his fifth ton of the year.

In response, West Indies lost Campbell early on in the innings, thanks to the stunner from Sudharsan. Chanderpaul (34) and Athanaze (38) managed to stitch together a good partnership but it wasn’t long before the Indian bowlers started striking in regular intervals. On Day 3, the West Indies have already lost 4 wickets and are just two away from being bowled out.
