Battlefield 6 Story campaign: impressions and practical details

The Battlefield franchise has long been defined by its massive multiplayer battles, but this year, it also brings back something that fans were waiting for: a complete campaign to support the basic multiplayer experience and portal offers.

Battlefield 6 Launched on October 10, 2025, and I had the chance to play three of the solo history missions of the game before the complete revelation later this week and to speak directly with Alma TalbotProduction director at Motive, and Maryse JosephMain level designer at Motive, what to expect when players enter this new almost future war.

Here is what I can share Battlefield’s 6 Campaign with my hands and interviews:

The definition and time of time in the history of the battlefield 6

A war close to the quasi-future

The campaign takes place in 2027, during a period of global instability, at least when it begins. NATO fractures and a private military company called PAX Armata increases to fill the power of power. The players take control of Dagger 13, an elite team with four people from “Marine Raiders” deployed through the continents to stop the growing influence of Pax Armata.

“We wanted to start with a series of no, which would happen if the countries were starting to withdraw from NATO,” Talbot explained to me how the decor met: “We wanted to have a campaign that was anchored in reality that would feel realistic in many ways.”

Battlefield 6’s The history campaign covers nine missions in total, each designed to highlight different styles of play. Joseph confirmed: “There are nine missions in total throughout the campaign, and Mission 8 is completely unique in its way of being so open and Sandboxy.”

One of the three missions I played took place in 2028, and I was told that the story was taking place on “a few years”. Each of the three varied from 25 to 40 minutes each, so I estimated the complete campaign to take around 4 to 5 hours to finish.

Missions and playable characters in the battlefield 6

Each mission offers different environments and game styles

The three missions available in the overview were clearly selected to present the variety of gameplay that players can expect. After the first two, I feared that the whole game would feel too linear with too much concentration on tight quarters and the fight at close range, but Mission 8 was entirely in a large map, with moments of cinematographic history. No spoilers, but here is what I experienced:

  • Operation Gladius (Mission 3, Gibraltar) Remove the players in an assault by the sea where armored vehicles lead the load and the mission begins with the control of a turret with a machine gun and grenades launcher. On foot later, the repair of a friendly armored vehicle becomes as important as to pull rockets on enemy bastions.
  • No sleep (Mission 5, New York) takes place in Brooklyn at night, and yes, you have vision glasses. This mission emphasizes vertical combat and nearby districts, with collapse, destructible walls and even a hammer that can create new paths through apartments and construction sites. Take a shotgun and thank me later.
  • Operation EMBER Strike (Mission 8, Tadjikistan) is a wide open mission that allows players to choose how to deactivate several air surface missile sites. He’s my favorite. In this mission, you play as Gecko, the team shooter of the team, who brings both a sniper rifle and a super funny drone that can label the enemies and drop bombs. It is a mission built around freedom of approach, mixed vehicles, IA escape comrades and gadgets in a sandbox. As a bonus, there are two sequences involving the use of a guided mortar which is the only time you can feel the most over-alive.

Meet Dagger 13

Each member of Dagger 13 brings a separate combat role that you will recognize Battlefield Signature courses and missions are often designed to highlight their forces. When you play like them, you can pick up and exchange weapons and secondary caches or slaughtered enemies as you see fit.

  • Haz Carter (Assault): The team leader, built for combat near the scope and a violation of interiors.
  • Dylan Murphy (engineer): Specialist in explosives and RPG, ideal for heavy vehicle missions.
  • Simone “Gecko” Espina (Recon): Equipped with a sniper rifle and a drone that can locate and bomb enemies from above.
  • Cliff Lopez (support): Provides the utility of the team by smoke and replenishment, keeping the team in motion.

“We wanted the campaign to establish the world that we then play in multiplayer”, ” Talbot explained how these roles influenced the level design. She continued: “I am really excited to see how people live the different roles and the different classes of the first person in a narrative context.”

Team destruction and tactics

The battlefield has always been known for destruction, but in Battlefield 6 It’s not just a gadget. It is a central part of each mission. The floors and walls collapse under fire, low coverage quickly disintegrates and players must constantly adapt to changing battlefields. Mission 5, in particular, presented a breathtaking sequence of the fall of soils as they collapse.

It is not a secret for anyone that the return and improvement of environmental destruction were at the forefront of marketing of the game. Talbot stressed how important it was for the team for the campaign: “We wanted to make sure that we use tactical destruction in a significant way … so that people not only feel that it is a kind of” ISH “experience of multiplayer, but that it is his own autonomous thing that exists in the universe of the battlefield.”

“The destruction is at the heart of Battlefield 6, and we use it everywhere,” added Joseph: “We have made a lot of effort on the development of correct technology to have this throughout the campaign.”

Destruction is at the heart of Battlefield 6, and we use it everywhere.

Squad Play is the other determining pillar of the campaign of my experience. Dagger 13 is not only a story through the line connecting the nine missions together, but a group of soldiers whose unique roles (the same classes as in the multiplayer) can be ordered through the Squad commands system. Players can ask for grenades, RPG strikes, smoke or reconditioning scans to gain the upper hand.

Joseph compared this functionality directly to the multiplayer: “Having the team’s orders for me is like playing with other people in multiplayer … Everyone has a role and you can direct and give orders.”

Battlefield 6 is solo and still online

Despite nature focused on the campaign squad, EA confirmed to me that the campaign was conceived as a solo experience only and that the cooperation game was not taken into account. “The campaign was intended to be an exciting and fulfilling experience for solo players. Those who want to play in battlefield 6 with friends can do it in the vast multiplayer offer.”

The other key detail is that an internet connection is required, even for the Bf6 campaign. According to the official FAQ: “An internet connection is necessary to download critical updates and play in battlefield 6.”

A question that many fans have is whether the campaign is simply a long tutorial for multiplayer. Talbot was quick to point out that he stands alone: “I would not necessarily position it as a tutorial … It has full legs and it is an autonomous experience.”

However, the campaign acts as an introduction to the world on which multiplayer is based, giving a narrative context to arms, vehicles and squads. Talbot said that she was very excited to see how the players react to play in different characters and live both the great cinematographic moments and the more emotional history beats which bind Dagger 13 together.

Will there be DLC or extensions for the Battlefield 6 Campaign, which would be a first for the franchise? For the moment, we must listen to the official canals of the battlefield for post-launch plans to see what is coming.

Final impressions

After spending time with three missions, Battlefield 6The campaign campaign looks like a deliberate step in terms of concentration on the characters and producing basic destruction and tenants of the total multiplayer war with a solo experience. He mixes cinematographic sets with the sequence of occasional sand bins, he incorporates destruction into the very heart of the fight, and he gives the players significant control of their team, which allows them to play each member of it throughout history.

Nor is it a breeze. On the default difficulty, players’ characters are fragile and enemies can be fatal. The strategy, the use of equipment and caution with vehicles will be essential.

With nine missions on several continents, an anchored quasi-filure war and a gameplay that balances the show with the tactics, Battlefield 6 Apparently tried to reshape what a battlefield history can be, but also to make sure that it is an important added value to the biggest battlefield in the history of the franchise. As for the way the full story takes place and if there will be more in history in the future, we will have to wait and see.
