Ayatollah Khamenei requires a “great national unity” as shown in cracks in political establishment
The Iranian “supreme leader”, the dictator of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a speech demanding a complete submission to his Iranian people regime on Sunday, describing national “unity” as an “iron shield” to defend against America and Israel.
Khamenei made his comments in the context of the start of a party known as the “government week” in Iran. According to the propaganda site managed by the Prestv State, the government’s week marks “The week preceding the anniversary of the 1981 martyrdom of Iranian President Mohammad Ali Rajaei and Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar.” Other media have described Khamenei’s appearances as linked to the anniversary of the death of Imam Reza, the eighth imam of Shiite Islam. More immediately, comments followed weeks of debate, part of which spreading into the public, among political heavyweights in Iran, many of which began to demand that Ayatollah seek negotiations with the United States after air strikes have destroyed three of the most important nuclear development sites in Iran.
Several reports throughout the month of August identified the members of the anterior “moderate” administration of former President Hassan Rouhani as making public declarations and writing articles suggesting that a certain form of negotiation with America was necessary to preserve the regime – a striking contrast with the rejection of Khamenei from all contact with the administration of President Donald Trump. President Masoud Pezeshkian, who campaigned as an alleged “moderate”, also made the line this week, issuing repeated comments demanding “unity” of the Iranian people behind the providing rejection by Khamenei of any attempt to improve relations with Washington.
On Sunday, in his remarks, Khamenei insisted that the normalization of links with the United States was impossible because Washington sought to subjugate Iran.
“The United States wants Iran to be obedient,” he said, according to a translation of the network of news adapted to the Al-Manar regime in Lebanon. “The Iranian nation is deeply offended by such a great insult and will be held with all its strength against those who house such a false expectation of the Iranian people.”
Khamenei insulted politicians in Iran who have encouraged negotiations with the United States as a “shallow mind” and asked for the end of any discussion on other ways of addressing the country’s current diplomatic state.
“Ayatollah Khamenei has urged all people, officials and intellectuals to preserve and strengthen the iron shield of the great current national unit with all heart,” reported Al-Manar. “He also said that all people and groups should support the worker president Masoud Pezeshkian.”
Another pro-regime Iranian media, Tasnim News, stressed that Khamenei reiterated that Iran had won what had commonly called “12-day war” in June, when Israel launched a massive military operation to weaken Iran’s ability to attack the country. The United States has joined the operation by approving the bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites – Uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan – on June 21, which President Donald Trump described as a “spectacular military success”. Most of the experts, including international atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) leaders, said after the attack they thought that the ability of the sites to enrich uranium had been widely destroyed. Despite the enormous losses for the Iranian regime and the minimum losses of the Israeli and American teams, Khamenei proclaimed that the two had undergone “bitter defeats” in June.
“Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iranian adversaries realized” their bitter defeats in military attacks “and” firm resistance and unity of the Iranian nation, civil servants and armed forces “,” Tasnim has relayed, “that neither the people nor the Islamic Republic can be basement by war or obedience.”
“This is why enemies now pursue their objectives by creating a discord in Iran,” added Khamenei.
“The chief warned against internal agents, the Zionist influence and the reckless voices which can fuel discord, while praising the Iranian people for having maintained unity despite political or social differences,” added Tasnim.
The emphasis on the “preservation of unity among all the strata of society, between the people and the administration” of the “supreme chief” follows the rumors of the opposition to the intransigence of the regime in the last year. The independent international of Iran described a “fierce battle” within the Iranian eruption government last week, led in part by former president Rouhani and former foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who served under Rouhani. “The consequences of the recent 12 -day war with Israel, associated with Fugon inflation, industrial stagnation, the collapse of the national currency and capital flight, had created a more acute risk of economic paralysis than ever,” the alleged “reformers” wrote.
Rouhani himself appeared in certain quotes from local Iranian media suggesting more friendly ties with the West.
“If we can improve relations with Europe, our neighbors and to the east and to the west – even reduce tensions with the United States – and this serves our interests, then why not?” He would have said allegedly. “Not only is nothing wrong with that, but it is our duty and our obligation.”
