AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Reportedly Featured “Greatest Role Ever” for This Returning Character

While this probably wouldn’t be considered a spoiler – especially after the release of the Steve Rogers-centric teaser – as that character’s return hasn’t been officially announced yet, here’s your take. spoiler warning.

Even though she wasn’t shown in the first Avengers: Apocalypse teaser, Peggy Carter is obviously expected to appear in the film, and it looks like Hayley Atwell could have a much bigger role than previous rumors suggested.

According to scooper Daniel Richtmann, “Hayley Atwell will have the biggest role she’s ever had in an Avengers movie in Doomsday. She’s not just a cameo, and she actually has a role throughout the entire movie.”

While Rogers will almost certainly join the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the fight against Doctor Doom and his forces, Carter’s role remains a mystery, but we’ve heard that she will actually play multiple versions of Peggy in Doomsday.

Atwell debuted as Steve Rogers’ love interest in Captain America: The First Avengerbut the British actress had the opportunity to express a very different vision of the hero in the What if…? animated series, before disguising himself as “Captain Carter” (a variant of Captain America) for a brief appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Carter didn’t last very long in the Doctor Strange sequel, however, and met a violent end after being cut in half by her own shield by the rampaging Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

Atwell showed interest in having the chance to do more with her “underserved character” in a recent interview with Geek Den.

“There’s so much she could do, there’s so much more I think I could bring to a character because I’ve evolved over time.” she explained. “The great thing about having time behind you and having had a 20-year career so far is the skill development, and I think Peggy can do a lot more. She’s a really underused character.”

“When she says ‘I know my worth and other people’s opinions don’t really matter,’ it’s because she hasn’t been given the platform that she knows that she deserves and that she’s really capable of doing in the world. And so I think there’s so much more she can do, and I think she’s talking about a modern day, so to be able to take her to that next level as Captain Carter would be phenomenal. Especially with all my Mission: Impossible training. I’m ready, let’s go!”

From everything we’ve heard, it seems very likely that Atwell will indeed take up the shield as Captain Carter in Avengers: Apocalypse.
