AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Leaked Trailer Showcases Major Reveal That Could Shape The Future Of The MCU

The first trailer – although it’s actually more of a character-driven scene than an actual teaser – for Avengers: Apocalypse was leaked online earlier today, and it finally confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets surrounding the film.

Spoilers in front.

Yes, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) will officially return to the MCU in doomsdayand obviously, the former Captain America will take center stage as one of the film’s protagonists alongside Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

While Evans’ name wasn’t announced as part of this summer’s big reveal, his involvement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who’s been keeping tabs on the many rumors that have swirled since we learned that Marvel Studios would be walking away from The Kang Dynasty following Jonathan Majors’ assault accusations.

Far more interesting is the revelation that Steve and Peggy had a child together in the alternate timeline created when The First Avenger returned the Infinity Stones and decided to stay in the past. Avengers: Endgame.

Rogers having a child is a concept that has been explored in the comics across several different timelines and realities. In the main Marvel Comics 616 continuity, Steve adopts Arnim Zola’s biological son, Ian Rogers, who eventually adopts the persona of Nomad. There’s also the Red Skull from the Ultimate Universe and Sarah Rogers, aka Crusader, from What If? reality.

Of course, it’s highly likely that this unnamed child we see in the teaser is an entirely new character, but his existence could still have significant ramifications for the future of the MCU. We know that T’Challa’s son, T’Challa Jr., will eventually become the new Black Panther, and it appears that Thor’s adopted daughter, Love, will return as well.

Marvel Studios has plenty of options when it comes to carrying on the legacy of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and characters like The Champions and the Thunderbolts, aka The New Avengers, are expected to take up the mantle post-Secret Wars. Still, one can’t help but wonder if the studio is covering all bases by introducing more of the Avengers’ actual children, as opposed to mentees reprising their roles.
