AT&T Class Action Settlement: Extended Deadline to Claim Your Share

AT&T has agreed to pay a total of $177 million to settle a class action lawsuit over two “data incidents” that occurred in 2024.
WASHINGTON — A judge has extended the deadline for AT&T customers to file claims to be part of a $177 million settlement with the telecommunications giant over customer data breaches discovered in 2024.
The extension was part of an Oct. 3 order from the judge overseeing the case.
AT&T has agreed to pay a total of $177 million to settle a class action lawsuit over two “data incidents” that occurred in 2024.
According to the Kroll Settlement Administration, certain customer data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account access codes, billing account numbers, and Social Security numbers, was placed on the dark web or illegally downloaded from a third-party cloud platform.
The class action covers the data incident announced on March 30, 2024 and the one announced on July 12, 2024. A judge must still approve the settlement as currently written, which is scheduled for January 15.
What are the new deadlines for settling the AT&T class action lawsuit?
Those affected by the data breach initially had until November 18 to file their complaints. But this deadline was pushed back by a month, to December 18.
You have until November 17 to opt out of the settlement in order to file a separate lawsuit. This is also the last day to formally register objections to the current settlement agreement.
A judge is expected to hold a final approval hearing on Jan. 15, before the payments can be made.
Who is eligible to file a claim in the AT&T data breach class action settlement?
Anyone in the United States whose information or data was accessed during the March 30, 2024 or July 12, 2024 breaches is eligible to file a complaint. It is possible that some individuals are part of both violations and are referred to as “overlapping settlement class members,” according to the FAQ on the settlement website.
If you are unsure whether you are included in the settlement, you can call Kroll Settlement Administration at (833) 890-4930 with any questions.
How to File a Claim for AT&T Settlement
A website is open for AT&T customers involved in data breaches.
To submit a complaint, click on “Submit a complaint” at the top right of the website. Customers will be asked to include a class member ID and their email address, AT&T account number, or full name. Additional documents will be required to submit a claim.
Customers should have received a notice with a confirmation code and notice ID, but can contact Kroll Settlement Administration at (833) 890-4930 for more information.
Once you submit a claim, you waive the right to sue AT&T for issues related to that matter. If you wish to file a separate lawsuit, you must opt out of the settlement by the October 17 deadline.
How much will you get?
The exact amount isn’t entirely clear, but those involved in the first incident can claim up to $5,000 for losses that occurred “in or after 2019, upon submission of documentation that the losses are fairly traceable to AT&T Data Incident 1,” according to the settlement’s website.
Those involved in the second incident can claim up to $2,500 for losses that occurred “on or after April 14, 2024, upon submission of documentation that the losses are fairly traceable to AT&T Data Incident 2,” according to the settlement website.
Customers affected by both could receive up to $7,500.
If you cannot provide documentation of data breach losses, you may choose a cash payment option, which will become part of the settlement once costs and claims are distributed among claimants.
When will I receive my payment?
According to the settlement website, the court will hold a hearing on January 15, 2026 to decide whether to approve the settlement. However, even if the settlement is approved, there could be appeals that delay payments.
There is no estimate of when payments might be made, with or without the appeal process involved.
