Aston Villa looking to lure club away from Todd Boehly to become one of ‘most promising young full-backs’
Facing Chelsea in the transfer market, Aston Villa are now reportedly aiming to recruit one of the “most promising” defenders Ligue 1 has to offer.
Emery not ‘surprised’ by Go Ahead Eagles defeat
While the rest of the Premier League may have watched in shock as the Go Ahead Eagles beat Aston Villa in the Europa League on Thursday, Unai Emery admitted the 2-1 defeat did not “surprise” him.
The Spaniard first saw his team take the lead thanks to one of his most expensive signings, Evann Guessand, before goals from Mathis Suray and Mats Deijl turned the match around in dramatic fashion. Emiliano Buendia had the chance to level things from the spot, but only added to Villa’s misery by missing his penalty.
Having a say in the outcome, Emery said: “It was no surprise to lose for me and for the players because here we will live our experiences playing in Europe and outside. Every year we had a defeat like this. Two years ago at Legia Warsaw, last year in Bruges and this year yesterday.
“Of course, there are still games to play and I want to learn. For me, yesterday, all that happened, for us, was learning. Learning and also remembering the experiences we had in similar circumstances.
“Why? Because of course we were favorites and of course we dominated and of course we had more chances, but even like that you can lose. In the Europa League we are consistent, even yesterday, losing, we are consistent.”
Strong performances on the European stage will be key for Aston Villa if they are to avoid further PSR problems and then attract some of the most promising talents around. Progressing in the Europa League, for example, would not hurt them in the race to beat Chelsea against an impressive Ligue 1 defender.
Aston Villa targets Guela Doué
According to Pete O’Rourke, Aston Villa are now considering signing Guela Doue from Strasbourg, but face competition from Chelsea, who are looking to once again capitalize on Todd Boehly’s links, with Strasbourg under BlueCo ownership.
“I’m sure it’s not just Aston Villa that has attracted attention.
“Doue had a great time in Strasbourg. Still impressed last weekend [17 October] against European champions PSG in that match as well and established himself as one of the most promising young full-backs in Ligue 1 today. »
If there were any doubts about Doue’s potential, then they should have folded against PSG last weekend. The right-back grabbed an assist as Strasbourg surprised the European champions by taking a 3-1 lead before eventually drawing 3-3 at the Parc des Princes.
At just 23 years old, there is still a lot to come from Doue and many could arrive at Villa Park in the near future.
