Ashwin to finalize BBL Deal soon, could appear in 3-4 games in 2025 and 2026/27 season

According to reports, there are 4 Big Bash League (BBL) teams who actively continue the signature of Ravichandran Ashwin

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is closing in on finalizing a deal, paving way for his entry to the Big Bash League (BBL). The Tamil Nadu spinner is eligible to play in global T20 leagues following his abrupt retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) last month. Ashwin is reportedly in talks with four franchises and is expected to sign a contract by the end of this week.

Ashwin’s BBL entry coming soon

As per ESPNCricinfo, Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers are the four BBL sides currently in pursuit of Ashwin. The spinner will reportedly take part in the latter stage of this year’s BBL, featuring in 3-4 games and the finals should the team he signs for makes it. Additionally, the report states that Ashwin’s deal will also include playing for the side in 2026/27 season.

Ashwin will be available for three-four games at the end of the season for one of those teams, plus finals should the team he signs with qualify. His deal will also include the BBL for the 2026-27 season,” the report states.

Should he sign a deal, Ashwin will become the first Indian player to be a part of the men’s Big Bash League. Earlier, Ashwin announced that he would a part of the Hong Kong Sixes tournament, representing India. The next edition of BBL 2 will be played between December 14 to January 18. Meanwhile, Ashwin has also registered himself for the ILT20 auction which will take place today. ILT20 is scheduled to run from December 2 to January 4. Thus, if Ashwin is picked in the ILT20 auction, then it naturally makes sense that he will be a part of BBL (if he signs an agreement) only in the latter stages of the tournament.
