Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film gunsmith found guilty of involuntary homicide guilty in the filming of “rust”, was released on Friday after serving 14 months in prison.
Gutierrez Reed, 28, served his sentence in the western new mexical correctional center. She was released on Friday morning and ordered to go to Bullhead City, Arizona, where she lives. His lawyer, Jason Bowles, refused to comment on the release out of respect for his private life.
Gutierrez Reed turned out to have acted with criminal negligence when she loaded a living bullet in the Alec Baldwin pistol on the west set near Santa Fe, NM, in October 2021. Baldwin held the weapon when she shot, killing the filmmaker Halyna Hutchins and the injury director Joel Souza.
Baldwin – Who denied having shot the trigger – was also tried for manslaughter last July, but the case was rejected after the judge learned that the prosecutors had retained proof of the defense. The Santa Fe District Prosecutor abandoned this decision in December, after the State Prosecutor General refused to prosecute him.
Gutierrez Reed was sentenced during a trial in February and March 2024. Prosecutors alleged that the shooting was part of a sloppy and non -professional behavior model, in particular by allowing actors to sign firearms and not maintain the “mouth discipline”.
The defense argued that Gutierrez Reed could not have provided that a box of inert dummy balls had been contaminated by a handful of similar living bullets. The defense also alleged that production was to blame for cutting the corners and for having forced it to do the work of two people.

Gutierrez Reed was sentenced in April 2024 to 18 months in prison, the maximum duration for manslaughter. Until her conditional release expires next year, she cannot buy, sell or have firearms. She is also condemned to undergo an assessment of mental health and to obtain work or to register in school within 45 days.
His case remains on appeal, because the defense has allegedly alleged many errors of the trial judge. She pleaded separately guilty of an accusation of having brought a gun into a bar, which did not add to her prison. Several civil affairs are also pending.
David Halls, the first deputy director who was responsible for security, did not argue any assistance with an accusation of an offense of negligence of a firearm. He received six months of not monitored probation and no prison. He has since retired from industry.
“Rust” was completed in Montana more than a year after the shooting. He received a limited release on May 2, making only $ 25,000 in 115 theaters.
