Since its theatrical release on June 27, 2025, “F1 The Movie” has broken records, debuting at No. 1 and surpassing $629 million at the worldwide box office. In addition to being the highest-grossing sports film, “F1 The Movie” is this year’s highest-grossing original feature film, and the largest opening for a live-action original film in the United States in the last five years, as well as Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing feature film to date. The film boasts an A CinemaScore, as well as a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and continues to be widely acclaimed as the most authentic racing feature film ever made.
“It’s exciting to see audiences around the world embrace ‘F1 The Movie’ in theaters,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “Now, we are beyond excited to bring this exhilarating cinematic adventure to fans around the world with the unprecedented global reach of Apple TV. The partnership with Apple and Formula 1 has been an incredible journey, and we are proud that even more viewers, from every corner of the world, will be able to experience the thrilling action and passion that defines “F1 The Movie.”
Nicknamed “the greatest that ever lived,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was Formula 1®’s most promising phenomenon of the 1990s until an on-track accident nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he is a nomadic driver when he is approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a Formula 1® team in difficulty and on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to return to Formula 1® for one last chance to save the team and be the best in the world. He will drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s rookie determined to set his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he discovers that in Formula 1®, your teammate is your fiercest competitor – and that the path to redemption is not something you can travel alone.
“F1 The Movie” also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia and Bardem, and was filmed over Grand Prix weekends as the team took on the titans of the sport. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, seven-time Formula 1® world champion Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman.
Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger with the story of Kosinski and Kruger. The film is produced by Daniel Lupi. Collaborating with Kosinski behind the scenes is his creative team, consisting of cinematographer Claudio Miranda, production designers Mark Tildesley and Ben Munro, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Julian Day, casting director Lucy Bevan and composer Hans Zimmer.
Beyond the box office, “F1 The Movie” sparked a global musical phenomenon with F1® The Album, the high-octane star-studded soundtrack that has surpassed 650,000 albums sold worldwide and over a billion global streams. Currently dominating the Billboard Top Movie Songs chart with seven of the top ten tracks, the album is powered by two-time VMA nominee Tate McRae’s hit single, “Just Keep Watching.” With more than four billion views across short-form video platforms, F1® The Album has become a defining musical moment for 2025 and a vital part of the film’s cultural impact.
