Applications like Kindle are already taking advantage of changes in the iOS app mandated by the court

From an update published today, the iOS application still does not allow books to be purchased directly in the application, but you can search for Amazon’s virtual bookstore inside the application and press a new “Get Book” button that appears automatically on Amazon.com in your phone or the default browser of your tablet. It is not as practical for users as allowing them to buy digital goods or services directly in the application, but it makes things much more user -friendly for users of applications whose developers do not want to pay Apple a cut.
For the first time, the Kindle on iOS application can automatically direct book buyers to the Amazon site to make a purchase.

Apple’s position on its App Store commissions has generally been, to write a high-level summary, that these third-party application developers benefit from the size and scope of the Apple platform, the work that Apple does to maintain the App Store and to make applications discovering, and Apple payment processing services, among other advantages.
Even when he respected an order of the court to allow third -party developers to use alternative payment processors in their applications, Apple has always insisted on a drop of 12 to 27% (rather than the usual 15 to 30%) to cover these other less tangible advantages of the supply of applications and services on Apple devices. (Apple’s method to comply with this decision, including expensive deposit requirements for developers who have used third -party payment services, was one of the many things that Judge Gonzalez criticized Apple in last week’s decision.)
A new headache for Apple
Apple is attractive last week’s decision, and it may well succeed at the end, giving the company the possibility of making these rules back up and for again to further force developers to use Apple’s integrated payments or to force users to buy goods and services externally. But even if this change is only temporary, it still creates new potential headaches for Apple.
