Former users of the Viral Women Safety Application for Women are the latest victims of a massive cyber attack, which has made thousands of user images held in a vulnerable inherited database.
Reported by Reddit users for the first time, the hack was verified by 404Media and later confirmed by tea itself, and affects 72,000 images published on the application in the past two years. Among the hacked data, 13,000 images were selfies or photo identification cards such as driving licenses submitted by users to check their accounts. 59,000 other images stored in the database were individuals published on the application.
Tea, founded by Sean Cook, has been designed as an application reserved for women so that users document their negative experiences with men and warn other potential danger women. According to the Tea website, 10% of its profits are given national hotline on domestic violence.

The vulnerability was discovered by 4Chan’s users, which began to share photo identifiers of women on the platform. In a thread detailing hacking, a user wrote: “Yes, if you have sent the tea application to your face and driving license, they have equipped you publicly! No authentication, no. It is a public bucket. Driving licenses and face photos! Fucking here before closing it!” Other users said they were collecting personal information from images, 404media reported. In a publication statement, TEA said that data had been stored to comply with cyber-intimidation prevention requirements and that no current user information had been raped.
Earlier this week and due to several viral tweets from its users, tea has become the number one application on the Apple App Store. The trendy application has since become the object of online controversy, in particular on the part of people who do not agree with the emphasis on the documentation of the unwanted and inappropriate behavior of men in a public forum, without verification. Many criticisms (including men who have been involved in the application) see the application’s report mechanisms, such as users who publish “red flag” men and its user verification system, which uses photos to “confirm” the sex of a user, as a violations of confidentiality.
Culturally, the others fear that the nature type nature will be too similar to the pages of online snark, which often encourage users to engage in obsessive cycles of gossip and online harassment, and could potentially lead to doxxing. He was compared to the popular “are we going out with the same guy?” Facebook page.

In a post X of July 22, a user wrote: “How long until there is a data leak? I give it 1 month.” Other Enhardis online users have responded to the popularity of the application reserved for women with openly misogynist “copycat” applications, including those intended to follow the “body accounts” of women. “Presentation of Boxscore, an application only on the man where users anonymously share information and warnings on women to identify red flags and obtain comments,” wrote the user @tolly_xyz in an article on X.
