Apple’s macOS reveals on WWDC: what the new name Tahoe says about what will come

Apple’s next Mac operating system is called Lake Tahoe, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.
The new macOS, which should be unveiled at WWDC on June 9, would stick to the Apple Convention since 2013 to appoint the version of the operating system after natural natural spots from California such as Big sur and Sequoia.
The version number will also change, going from what would have been MacOS 16 to MacOS 26. Apple modifies the OS versions on its platforms to line up with the year of their version, we will therefore have MacOS 26, iOS 26, TVOS 26 and so on for software in 2025, but having the greatest range in 2026.
According to Gurman, the new operating system will be a major overhaul of the Mac operating system and the new name could refer to a visual refreshment. “Lake Blue Deep is … known to show the reflection of the sky and the surrounding mountains-something that clicks on the striking visuals of the new user interface,” he wrote.
In addition to design changes, Apple should also make major announcements linked to its game platform and its health initiatives. You can check what to expect from WWDC 2025 and how to watch the Keynote of June 9.
A representative for Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
