Amorim ‘feels supported every day’ at Man Utd

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he feels supported every day by the club but knows he must change the mentality on the pitch.

Amorim has been at Old Trafford for a year, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe saying this month that the Portuguese would have the full three years of his contract to prove himself.

Amorim says he feels this support coming from above, but acknowledges that results need to improve.

He said: “First of all, I can feel it, it’s not just this thing people say, I feel it every day.

“Sometimes the pressure I put on the team and on myself is much greater. I know it’s going to take time. It’s really good to hear that.

“I think it helps our fans understand that the management knows it’s going to take time. But at the same time I don’t like it because I don’t want that feeling in our club that we have time to sort things out.

“We have to prove in football and in big clubs that every week we are ready to win games.”

United head into a massive match against Liverpool this weekend in 10th place in the Premier League.

United are winless in their last nine Premier League games at Anfield and are expected to perform well under Amorim.

He said: “When you play at big clubs you have to win every game.

“We sometimes find it difficult to take this responsibility. Maybe when Manchester United are not expected to win it is easier for the players to play, but we have to change that.

“I know this game is special for our club. I know they are competing for a number of titles. It’s one more game we have to prove once again that we play better. We have to be better in both boxes. It’s one more game we have to win.”
