Amazon plans to cut up to 30,000 jobs at the company starting Tuesday, as the company works to cut expenses and offset excessive hiring during the pandemic’s peak demand, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

That figure represents a small percentage of Amazon’s 1.55 million employees, but nearly 10% of the company’s approximately 350,000 employees. This would represent the largest job cuts at Amazon since around 27,000 jobs were eliminated starting at the end of 2022.

An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment to Reuters.
