Amazon Games sells Giants March to Ubisoft

Amazon Games has sold its multiplayer online battle arena video game “March of Giants,” including the entire Montreal-based development team working on the upcoming project, to French video game giant Ubisoft.
According to Amazon and Ubisoft, “following the success of the game’s closed alpha,” the development team is “currently preparing the next large-scale update, which will introduce new giants, expanded competitive modes, and core systems designed to support long-term growth. As part of the deal, Amazon will also provide Ubisoft with marketing support for March of Giants on Twitch.”
Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to be finalized Tuesday, were not disclosed.
“We’re proud of what our team in Montreal has built with March of Giants,” Steve Boom, vice president of audio, Twitch and gaming at Amazon, said in a statement Monday. “We are confident that under Ubisoft’s leadership, Montreal’s talented developers will continue to thrive and create incredible gaming experiences. »
At Amazon Games Montreal, “March of Giants” was led by studio head Alexandre Parizeau, creative director Xavier Marquis and several other veterans of Ubisoft’s “Rainbow Six Siege” franchise.
“March of Giants offers a real opportunity to bring something new and dynamic to gamers and help Ubisoft compete in one of the biggest arenas in gaming,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft. “We look forward to welcoming back Alexandre, Xavier, and many members of the seasoned March of Giants team who have previously worked at Ubisoft, and the ambition, creativity, and talent of the entire team aligns perfectly with our desire to create bold new experiences for players. We look forward to supporting them as they shape the future of this promising new intellectual property.”
“Coming back to Ubisoft comes full circle,” said creative director Xavier Marquis. “We’ve done some of our most significant work here and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.”
Alexandre Parizeau added: “My thanks go to Amazon for their commitment during the first chapters of March of Giants. Our closed alpha was an important milestone and showed a glimpse of the true promise of the game. Today, by joining Ubisoft, we unite behind a common vision to make March of Giants one of the next great enduring MOBAs.”
