Fans erupt as Devon Conway and Tom Latham propel New Zealand to third series triumph over West Indies

New Zealand won a crushing victory over West Indies at the Bay Oval, delivering a ruthless all-round performance to conclude the third Test in emphatic fashion. After racking up massive runs across both innings, the hosts unleashed their bowlers on a worn surface on day five to dismiss the visitors cheaply and underline their dominance from start to finish.
Devon Conway and Tom Latham’s batting masterclass lays the foundation
New Zealand set the tone from the start of the competition with a monumental total of 575 in the first innings for 8 declared. The innings was built on patience, control and classic Test match batting, with Devon Conway standing. The left-hander produced a magnificent double century, dictating conditions for long periods and draining the confidence of the West Indian bowlers.
He found excellent support from the captain Tom Lathamwho created his own compound century. Together they ensured New Zealand remained firmly in control, forcing the visitors into long, grueling periods on the field. The rest of the batting unit made valuable contributions, allowing the Kiwis to declare from a position of absolute strength.
Kavem Hodge’s hundred keeps West Indies in the fight
In response, the West Indies showed a commendable fight, led by a superb century of Kavem Hodge. Batting with confidence and intent, he countered New Zealand’s disciplined attack and helped his team reach a respectable 420. However, despite this resistance, the visitors could not help but concede a sizeable first innings deficit of 155 runs.
New Zealand’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the match, ensuring that the Windies never really threatened to match the hosts’ dominance. The lead proved crucial as the match moved towards its decisive stages.
Conway and Latham sizzle again to give Windies massive target
With a solid advantage in hand, New Zealand batted with freedom in their second innings, reaching 306 for 2 before declaring. Latham and Conway once again led the charge, this time switching gears to score quick centuries that took the game completely away from the West Indies.
Their positive approach quickly increased the lead and left the visitors facing a daunting target of 462 runs on a surface beginning to show signs of wear and unpredictability.
