Baldur’s Gate 3 director follows up Divinity’s big reveal by teasing fans as Larian gets back to work on the RPG: ‘Go back to putting beaches in games now’

Larian Studios has been hard at work after revealing one of the most exciting new games at The Game Awards 2025, new entry Divinity – and it looks like part of that work might be implementing an opening act similar to that of the developer’s past RPGs.
If you’ve played Divinity: Original Sin, its sequel, or the more recent Baldur’s Gate 3, then you know all about the boat-to-beach sequence (although in the case of the latter RPG, it’s more of a spaceship than your ordinary water vehicle). It’s truly become iconic – and it may well take another form in Larian Studios’ upcoming Divinity game. At least, anyway, it looks like a few a kind of beach will be the developers’ new gem.
Game director and studio founder Swen Vincke appears to make as much in a recent online post. message following the Game Awards. “Last two [months] It’s been a rollercoaster ride,” he wrote. “I’m very proud of the team that put it all together. They did a remarkable job. I’m also very grateful to The Game Awards for supporting us with this announcement. » Then he adds casually: “Now I’m going back to putting beaches in games. »

His responses under the initial thread not only imply that Divinity will follow in the footsteps of previous Larian Studios RPGs by including a beach. Maybe I’m just on a serious hopium here, but they seem to be hinting at a shipwreck-focused debut. In a response to Palworld community manager John “Bucky” Buckley’s comment that he “can’t wait to wake up on the beach in chains again,” Vincke says he’s “taking notes.”
Under another response that argues for a shipwreck-related debut in Divinity and wonders what will happen “if” there isn’t one, Larian’s brain jokes, “I’d shipwreck too.” » It’s not just me, is it? Clearly, Vincke is just having a little fun here – but given the studio’s history and how other supposed hints and teases have gone, I’d say it’s very It’s possible that the new Divinity will feature its own chaotic beach opening.
Or, maybe, I hope it does – but hey, what’s wrong with that? For now, I’m crossing my fingers that Divinity isn’t too far away. Larian Studios East After all, they’re also working on another RPG: the mysterious project they’ve only named Excalibur.
“It’s not about shocking”: Divinity is not an RPG that avoids heavy topics because Larian knows that “people are capable of appreciating a three-dimensional world.”
