Things tighten a little for the Red Sox, who have lost four of their last five times after making a 2-1 decision against athletics.
It was a disappointing offensive performance, the SOXs going 0 for 7 with runners in the rating position. However, they led 1-0 when Connelly was lifted early in the sixth round after launching only 80 throws, but the lift enclosure could not keep the head.
The defeat dropped the Sox to the third point of Joker, two games behind the Yankees and ½ match behind the Astros. They lead the Guardians by only 2½ games for the last position of playoffs.
Lucas Giolito will be on the mound for SOX on Wednesday. The right -hander has just resolved consecutive losses, in both of the Red Soxs marked only once. This includes the defeat of Friday 4-1 against the Yankees in which he only granted two points (a deserved) and withdrew six in the first 5 rounds.
Athletics will counter with the recruit Mason Barnett, which will make its fourth departure.
