While things were quiet for a while, Voight received another unusual note during Chicago Police‘s “Impulse Control,” which confirmed his worst suspicions: someone was blackmailing him into resigning from his position. Here’s what happened:
Voight received another cryptic message Chicago Police
At the top of PDDuring the fall finale, Voight received another mystifying deposit from Trudy, who handed him an envelope that a bike courier dropped off in the middle of the night. Opening the package, Voight found the same photo of himself in a hospital bed as a child, this time with a crude message written on it: “Resign or this becomes public.”
This time the envelope contained two photos. Voight found another photo of the head of his father, Richard Voight, a CPD police officer until he died in the line of duty. Above this photo was the harsh message: “Your father, the abuser. »
Voight wanted to know which bike courier company had dropped off the envelope, so Trudy looked into it. After discovering the address of the bike messenger, a young man named Luke, Voight visited him and obtained as much information as possible. Luke told Voight that a white man in his 50s or 60s paid cash for the pickup; he wore nicer clothes.
Voight guessed that Luke was describing a cop, but Luke assured him that his contractor worked behind a desk. Voight grabbed the blackmailer’s number as he ran with his intuition.
Cut to Voight stationed outside a CPD office building, keeping an eye on the cops leaving for the day. Voight watched as Internal Affairs District Commander Devlin exited the building before privately calling the number Luke had given him. As the phone rang, Voight watched as Devlin stopped and instead of taking the cell phone in his hand, he pulled a cell phone out of a back pocket.
With Devlin refusing the call and continuing to move forward, Voight finally solved the case as to who was blackmailing him.
Why is Commander Devlin blackmailing Voight?
Chicago PoliceIn the Season 13 premiere, Hank Voight took desperate measures to reestablish the Intelligence Unit after its disbandment in Season 12 at the hands of corrupt CPD leader Reid (Shawn Hatosy). Voight overcame enormous odds to take down Reid after the team became aware of his nefarious misdeeds, even orchestrating Reid’s murder after the intelligence unit was dismantled.
Voight had hoped that Reid’s death would lead to a quick return to the Intelligence Unit, but his actions had dire consequences once he met Devlin.
Aware of the Intelligence Unit’s reputation for operating outside of protocol, Devlin initially refused to return to Voight’s team, leading the investigators to work on patrol for a time. Voight begged Devlin to allow the intelligence unit to return, but he insisted on the unit’s nefarious history. Voight then discovered Devlin’s questionable past within the CPD, threatening Devlin to make it all public if he did not return to the Intelligence Unit.
Devlin was dismayed but backed into a corner, eventually agreeing to return to the Intelligence Unit. But Voight received a warning: “You can’t distance yourself forever, Hank.”
It appears Devlin has fought back with fire, and Chihards can’t wait to see how Voight handles this shocking revelation. Find out what happens next by watching season 13 of Chicago Police Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC, or stream episodes the next day on Peacock.
