Alexander Payne on the fact of not giving the first prize “Voice of Hind Rajab”

After having awarded the Golden Lion of this year for the best film to the “father Mother Sister Brother” by Jim Jarmusch, the president of the Jury of the Venice Film Festival, Alexander Payne, faced a wave of questions from journalists on the decision. Many expected Kaouther Ben Hania’s Gaza drama “The Voice of Hind Rajab”, which received a standing ovation of 22 minutes in tears during its first and finally received the second prize for the Grand Jury, to be a shoo-in for the price of the best festival.
“It’s the unfair thing to be in a festival is to say that it is better than that. This is not the case,” said Payne diplomatically at a press conference after the award ceremony on Saturday. “As a jury, we cherish these two films too, each for their own reason. And we wish these two films a long and important life, and we hope that the price support that we have awarded this evening will help them, each in their own way.”
He continued: “Look, if we had voted the day before, the day later, it could have been different … As I say, we cherish and valoris and protect the two films also in our hearts. And if we had to receive a prize [over] The other is 0.000001% of decision -making. »»
The colleagues members of the Payne jury during the this year festival included the Brazilian actress and writer nominated to the Oscars Fernanda Torres (“I am still here”), the first Iranian author Mohammad Rasoulof (“The Seed of the Sacred Fig”), Palme d’Or-Winning Rouman Direct Brizé (“Out of Season”), the Italian director Maura Maura Delpero (“Vermiglio”) and the Chinese actor and producer Zhao Tao (“taken by the tides”).
Payne was then asked about a rumor floating on social networks that one of his jurors had threatened to resign due to disagreements on the best prices in the festival. He denied that this happened, saying: “One of my jurors threatened to stop?
