Alex Scott: “Guernsey Grenish” by Bournemouth finally showing its value after the first series of matches in two years | Football news

Much more than two years ago, Pep Guardiola first brought the name of the midfielder in the city of Bristol, Alex Scott, in the world of football in the broad sense.
He had a word to describe the performance of the 19-year-old woman, who had slipped around Ashton Gate’s field in a way that his teammates could not despite their 3-0 FA Cup defeat.
“He’s an incredible, incredible player,” he said. The PEP may never knowingly underestimated, but little in the West Country did not agree.
Scott was already on the radar of Premier League clubs, but it took things. Newcastle was linked to a summer move, but instead, Bournemouth, their television opponents on Sunday, stole a walk on them and the wolves – perhaps helped by the good will on the previous movements for Lloyd Kelly and Antoine Semenyo. Their expenses of 25 million pounds sterling won them a young, freshly crowned EFL player of the year before an Amad Diallo.
Media threshing around the midfielder has never completely returned to these levels. There have been glimpses of his talent, but while Semenyo matured to flourish in the Premier League, the injury slowed down Scott’s development to the point that he had not managed to start three consecutive championship games for the Cherries in April this year.
It has been completely the turnaround since. Scott ended up in the programming for 10 of the last 13 games on each side of the summer vacation, including the four this season.
Part of this was in the misfortune of others, with an injury keeping Ryan Christie has been sidelined for several months, but Scott has more than won his luck given his own forced absences to date. More importantly, the “Guernsey Grenish” took the opportunity with both hands.
Scott quietly signed this coherent series of match, but particularly attracted the attention of one of his best performances in a Bournemouth shirt during the victory last weekend against Brighton.
His beautiful opening match of 20 yards made the headlines, but Scott also finished four plated up the games and the second most important pressures of any player, despite standing out in the middle of the second half. At the time of his substitution last weekend, he was on the right track to record the most intensive races of anyone on the ground.
Some may have started to confuse Scott with the energetic scotsman he replaced. Christie was the focal point of the high pressure machine of Andoni Iraola before her forced absence, but Scott increased the regularity of her own presses by more than 50% last season to correspond almost to the figures of her rival.
Still at just 22 years old, Scott made a silky playmaker’s name and first seemed intended for a career as No. 10, but his teeth were cut for the first time in Bristol City on the right under the experienced direction of Nigel Pearson.
At the time, it seemed to limit his talent, but the lateral thought of Pearson taught at the time at the other side of the game and now helps him to thrive in the most demanding league of world football – probably even more demanding under the requirements of Iraola.
It will take more than that to restore the fanfare around Scott, but it is certainly a start. His talent has never been in doubt, but now the inevitable rust has calmed down, the intangible spark that caught Guardiola’s attention is back.
Scott’s strike against Brighton came with his allegedly lower left foot. You wouldn’t know about its purity, but it seemed to catch even Iraola.
“He has a very good finish – normally more right foot, but today with his left,” said the head coach. “But I think it’s good. He can add goals, assists. He has a very good touch and his ball strike is normally clean.
“This is why he sometimes takes up sets. And if he can end up like today, much better.”
It is the only thing to check; This goal from Brighton was only his third participation in the goal in 23 departures from Bournemouth and his first since December 2023.
He still does not quite create opportunities to add to this count with the same regularity of Christie, but if he continues on this trajectory, he will also correspond to this metric.
Some additional games compete with the performance of last weekend and it may not be fitness while keeping the Scottish out of the starting program.
