Alex Bregman will have plenty of options after Red Sox opt-out

Alex Bregman will opt out of his current contract with the Red Sox, according to sources, and after his strong first year in Boston, there could be one or two additional suitors, potentially including at least one surprise team (mentioned below) – although Boston still seems like a logical fit.
Bregman’s baseball-focused attitude made sense for Boston. The Red Sox still saved more than $250 million with the Rafael Devers trade and loved the veteran leadership of Bregman, the only player to play in the last eight Octobers.
But the field is expected to include more teams, making it easier to decide whether to opt out of his deal, which calls for $80 million over the next two years. The Tigers are the most obvious suitor with his former Astros manager AJ Hinch. The Tigers offered $171.5 million over six years last year, and he countered for about $10 million more before agreeing to Boston’s three-year deal.
The Jays and Mariners, playing in the ALCS, are among other possible adjustments, but there could be some surprise teams.
