“Like watching a trailer … for a program you would like to watch later”

An elder Doctor Who Star is not satisfied with the management that the show takes. After the BBC has concluded a massive agreement with Disney + for a large part of the era directed by Ncuti Gatwa, Disney + recently refused to renew its Doctor Who agreement. With Gatwa who goes out and Billie Piper returning to play the sixteenth doctor, the future of the show is in doubt.

It is a frankness that has been prominent in the world since its first creation in 1963. Consequently, more than a dozen actors played the main character, notably David Tennant, Pete Davison and, obviously, Billie Piper. Piper seems to be ready to direct the next era of the show, but a star thinks that Doctor Who is in trouble.

Pete Davison, who played the fifth doctor, believes that the show does not maintain a fulfilling story. In an interview on the Lewis Nicholls Show, Davison described watching Doctor Who as “Watch a trailer“”. He believes that there is no narrative cohesion, because the series jumps from one point to another without any direction. Discover his comments below:

Davison believes that Doctor Who has narrative difficulties

Having played the doctor from 1981 to 1984, Davison maintained a strong presence in the Doctor Who community. Even his son -in -law, David Tennant, played the doctor from 2005 to 2010 and then resumed the role to play the fourteenth doctor. Having remained connected to the show during the decades, Davison’s opinions have weight.

Doctor Who is faced with a drop in gradeswould have dropped nearly 2 million average viewers in the past two seasons. Losing the Disney + agreement is also worrying, since Disney offered a massive contract for the show, leading to an increased budget and greater international recognition. According to all the measures, the show faces a disturbing drop.

The BBC is still the purchase of a new agreement for the show, but Davison criticisms could get to the heart of its problems. After all, the increasingly complex scenario rarely has the possibility of building and developing slowly during a season. Instead, the Showrunner Russell T Davies prefers a frantic narrative style, which led directly to Davison’s arguments.

Our point of view on the criticism of Doctor Who

Peter Davison has a point

It is difficult to reject Davison’s criticisms, since the public has apparently agreed to decrease the show, but it is also easy to understand how the show went wrong. TV shows are increasingly competing with social mediawhich generally offer content of the size of a bite to hire viewers over the duration of attention.

If Davies hopes to engage these viewers, a trailer type series could be an effort to attract attention. Unfortunately, it does not seem that it really worked for the show. With a drop in grades, the loss of the Disney + agreement and the concerns about its future, Doctor Who may need to return to its roots.

Sunny and focused stories could help bring back the attraction that made this series so great. Although the scenarios throughout the season are engaging, they can be simplified to give more room to slower scenes that help the public connect to the characters. Davison is right that Doctor Who Must change, and this is the ideal time to do so.
