Al Jazeera Anas Al-Sharif correspondent, 4 other journalists killed on Israeli strike outside Gaza City

Al Jazeera Anas Al-Sharif journalist was killed with four colleagues in an Israeli strike on a tent used by journalists outside the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the network reported on Sunday.

Seven people were killed in the attack, including Al Jazeera Mohammed Qreiqeh correspondent and Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamin Aliwa cameras. The attack was confirmed by the Israeli army and several media, including the Associated Press.

Israeli military officials had allegedly alleged that Al-Sharif, 28, was a Hamas agent involved in rocket attacks. Al Jazeera rejected the accusation.

Al-Sharif was a well-known correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic which has reportedly reported Northern Gaza since the start of the war. A few moments before his death, he posted on X that the Israeli forces were carrying out an intense bombardment on the eastern and southern parts of the city of Gaza; In his final video, explosions and strong flashes of Fire missile could have been seen and heard in the background.

“This is my will and my last message,” Al-Sharif wrote in a post published posthumously on Sunday. “If these words reach you, know that Israel has managed to kill me and silence my voice.”

Al -Sharif – and Al Jazeera – were a controversial figure even among some in Gaza, where some residents were allegedly disrupted not to cover their demonstrations against Hamas.

Al Jazeera accused the Israeli army of leading an “incentive campaign” against its journalists in Gaza, distinguishing in particular Al-Sharif. Last month, the committee to protect journalists said it was concerned about Al-Sharif’s security.

More than 200 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war in October, according to rights groups, including several Al Jazeera journalists based in Qatar and their relatives. Israel frequently accused Palestinian journalists belonging to militant groups, according to accusation criticism, aims to undermine the coverage of its actions in the war.
