He is ready and eager to play the two test games – Ajit Agarkar on Jasprit Bumrah

Speaking on Jasprit Bumrah, Ajit Agarkar stressed how the Pace jumped the final of the very important series of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, but said that he had made available to the two test games against the West Indies despite a short period of recovery.

“This is a team for the two test games. So it is available for both. We had a break right after England. He also did not play the fifth test. A month or five weeks ago,” he said in response to a PTI request.

“This tournament (the Asian Cup in progress here where Bumrah plays) was quite spaced until last week. He is ready and eager to play the two test games,” said Agarkar.

I would like us to be able to give all 15 or 20 tests – Ajit Agarkar

The president of the BCCI selection committee also said that Devdutt Padikkal had replaced Karun Nair in the test team because the latter could not impress in the limited chances he had.

He added that Devdutt Padikkal has the opportunity to offer a little more than Nair, and it has been around the configuration of the test for some time, its performance being consistent.

“We believe that Padikkal offers a little more at this stage and I hope that we can give all 15 or 20 tests. Unfortunately, that does not work this way,” said Agarkar.

“Padikkal was part of the test team. Frankly, we expected a little more in Karun in England. Devdutt was in the test team in Australia, played in Dharamsala against England, and obtained a 50 there. He showed a decent form in the race,” said the old Pace.

In particular, Karun Nair had a disappointing outing upon his return to test the cricket during the tour in England when he only marked 205 despite the land offered for the striker in most matches.
