EXCLUSIVE: Directors UK, the commercial organization which has members, notably Paul Greengrass and James Hawes, expressed skepticism after an Italian producer revealed what he claimed to be the world’s leading world director.
Andrea Iervolino, whose credits include Ferrari And At the bone, announced Fellinai, an artificial intelligence director designed to celebrate European cinema. In a press release shared with Deadline, directors of the CEO of the United Kingdom, Andy Harrower, said: “Directors see things that other people – and AI programs – do not do it. Their vision is something that AI will never replace.”
He added: “But they have always adopted new technologies, and many explore how AI can support the elements of their work, releasing them to focus on narration. Of course, until much discussed copyright and license problems are resolved, the use of AI in film and television production is probably limited.”
The intervention of the Directors UK follows a similar reaction against Tilly Norwood, an actress of the AI under representation by talent agents. Deadline first announced the interest of Norwood, triggering the full concerns of the interim community, with Emily Blunt and Sag-Aftra criticizing the creation.
Fellinai is hosted in Andrea Iervolino Company Ai, an artificial intelligence branch of the Andrea Iervolino, Iervolino company acting like his “human in the loop”, a supervisor and producer who guides and monitors technology.
