Ai Dark Vader faces a backlash! SAG-AFTRA slams epic games for the practice of unfair work
Well, it certainly did not take long … only a few days after the Dark Vader created tons of controversy in Fortnite, Sag-Aftra intervenes and prepares to act.
To recruit the Dark Vador controlled by the AI in Fortnite, the players must first defeat him in a battle of Boss. Thereafter, a portal opens, allowing you to add it to your team. Once he is part of your team, players can get involved with him using conversational AI – a feature that must be activated in the settings to fully interact with the character.
It is this conversational AI system that is at the center of the controversy. The players discovered that they could encourage Vader to say or respond to very inappropriate and offensive orders, which leads to a wave of concern about the improper use of technology.
While Disney and Lucasfilm remain to the public, Sag -Aftra now intervenes – climbs the situation and draws attention to the growing ethical and legal concerns surrounding the performances generated by AI.
In a press release, the actor’s union wrote: “We celebrate the law of our members and their areas to control the use of their digital replicas and we welcome the use of new technologies to allow new generations to share the enjoyment of these inheritances and these renowned roles. However, we must protect our right to negotiate the terms and conditions around the uses of the voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the job to match the emblematic rhythm and tone of Dark Vader in video games.“”
The Declaration continues, “Fortnite Signatory Company, Llama Productions, has chosen to replace the work of human artists with AI technology. Unfortunately, they did it without giving an opinion of their intention to do so and without negotiating with us on appropriate conditions. As such, we have filed an accusation of unfair work practice with the NLRB against Llama Productions. A copy of the deposit can be read HERE. “”
This quantity of bad press and the judicial measures taken by Sag-Aftra probably mean that it is only a matter of time before the Dark Vader is withdrawn from the game.
