After rewatching “Dexter”, you will realize that you were completely wrong about the last 4 seasons

This year Dexter: Resurrection was exceptional, with the franchise changing things up by putting Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) in New York, like his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), last seen trying to kill his dear old father, can’t suppress his murderous urges in the Big Apple. At the same time, Dexter joins a strange club of serial killers led by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), and most terrifying of all, must deal with new budding emotions that cause him to both care more about people and fear how his son might feel towards him.
It was one of the best seasons of Right hand However, the common opinion is that it is certainly the biggest success since the peak of season 4 of the original series. After the Trinity Killer story, popular belief is that Right hand collapsed in its last four seasons. Yes, the series finale stank, but what came before it is way better than you remember.
Lumen’s story is one of Dexter’s most heartbreaking
We’re not going to dispute that Right hand did not reach its peak in season 4 because it definitely is. John LithgowTrinity Killer was absolutely terrifying (the actor won an Emmy for his work), with a performance from what appeared to be a normal family named Arthur Mitchell contrasting with something much darker. He was the perfect antagonist for our anti-hero, and this season finale, where we discover that Trinity killed Rita (Julie Benz) is one of the most shocking moments in television history. Where are you going after this?
The first time, season 5 of Right hand it was like a huge fallnot only because the series couldn’t match what John Lithgow had established, but because what was put in its place was so inferior. The bad guys this time were the Barrel Girl Gang, a group of men who rape and murder women. It is, of course, scary, but the real villains seem rather uninspired. Much of the season revolved around Lumen Pierce (Julia Stiles), a survivor of the gang, helped by Dexter and set on the path to kill his attackers. With Lumen and Dexter both so broken, Season 5 was a story of despair.
Thinking about it now, it’s easy to see why Julia Stiles is so talented.. She is not there to entertain, but to give a realistic portrayal of the trauma women experience due to male aggression. Lumen didn’t have much in common with Dexter, but that was the whole point. He showed her his true colors, and she used that for revenge, but it wasn’t a moment of joy. Once her attackers are dead, Lumen leaves Dexter’s life because she no longer wants to continue killing. Once again, Dexter gets close to someone, only to find himself alone. This season of Right hand isn’t as exciting as what came before, but it’s one of the most important to Dexter Morgan as a human being.
Dexter breaks his code in season 6
With all due respect to Colin Hankshe wasn’t great as Travis Marshall, the Doomsday Killer. This looked like the type of religious villain we’ve seen before in movies and on TV, and even the twist that Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos) was part of his broken mind, but that wasn’t enough to make him fascinating. Many fans consider this season mediocre Or Right hand was starting to run out of ideas, but there’s still a lot going on.
Mos Def is an important part of this batch of episodes, playing a religious ex-con named Brother Sam. He has killed before, but now, thanks to his faith, he is no longer afraid of death and tries to save others like him. Among them is Dexter Morgan, who reveals to the man who he really is. Dexter ends up remaining unchanged and sinks deeper into his urges.as he starts killing more and more bad people who don’t follow his code.
All of this is done to show, even if imperfectly, the struggle Dexter has within himself. He breaks down, but his obsession can’t be stopped, and it only gets worse. Rather than being a serial killer we can get behind, he has become more complicated and tragic.. Season 6 also has Debra’s huge reveal (Jennifer Carpentier) discovering that her brother is the real butcher of Bay Harbor, but the plot of Deb realizing she is in love with her brother destroys this twist for many. Yes, it’s arguably a step too far, but it also makes sense that a severely traumatized and broken soul like Deb Morgan could fall in love with the only person left in her life who truly cares about her.
Maria LaGuerta discovers the truth about Dexter in season 7
If season 6 was considered another setback, fans at least thought its successor was a little better. After all, Dexter increased the intensity by bringing in Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) finally figured out that the main character is the butcher of Bay Harbor. This leads to the tense episode where Dexter must decide whether he can somehow kill Maria or surrender.
If that’s not enough, Right hand doubles down by putting the decision in Debra’s hands. Will she turn in her brother, revealing his truth and thus ending his life, or will she kill LaGuerta to ensure his safety? It’s heartbreaking, but also a relief of guilt for us when she chooses the latter, killing her own boss not only because she wants to save the person she loves for him, but because she needs him so much and can’t exist without him. Dexter has passed his sins on to his sister, and there is no turning back.. Season 7 of Right hand also delivers a better antagonist in Isaac Sirko (Ray Stevenson) and introduces us to Dex’s romance with Hannah (Yvonne Strahovsky), a soul as dark as our anti-hero with whom he does not need to simulate a life to be around.
‘Dexter’ refuses to give audiences a happy ending
Right hand‘s eighth season is considered the worst of all, but there’s a lot of good to be found in what is admittedly a mess of episodes that aims to do way too much in too little time. Many did not like the way Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) changed Dexter’s origin story and diminished his father, but he aimed high to add more emotional complexity to the Dexter we thought we kneweven if it didn’t hit like Right handThe creators had hoped for it.
Dexter also refused to give viewers a happy ending which was in no way possible. Debra Morgan had to die, and we had to watch Dexter, who is now more in touch with his feelings for her because of Vogel, suffer. For someone who’s supposed to be a soulless killer, Season 8 of Right hand gives us a character who is more human than he has ever been outside of Dexter: Resurrection. Sure, the final act is silly, with Dexter faking his death and running away to become a lumberjack, but what other kind of ending could there be? If they weren’t going to kill Dexter, he would have no way to continue living his life. Going to the Northwest and growing a beard might have seemed odd, but he had to get as far away from himself and from us as possible. Right hand ends as a tragedy, but since we couldn’t let him go, he keeps coming back to carry out our orders.
